QUOTE(Jon_J @ Jan 1 2007, 11:13 PM) QUOTE(loriolson @ Jan 1 2007, 11:25 PM) Is there a problem with the Cacko downloads? I can't find 1.23 for the C750 anywhere. All I get are broken/missing links. Look here: http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...ndpost&p=149336 The cacko links are broken at the regular cacko site, due to oesf.org being moved to the new site. Thanks, Jon. I couldn't find that by Googling. |

Hi. I am using this excellent ROM at the moment. I am also trying to get pocketworkstation to work. I am using a c860, and I have followed the clear instructions here.
Having exited Qtopia, Vncserver seems to start up in the background ok. The problem I have seems to be with Fbvnc. When the command is issued the following errors occur: CODE FBmouseopen: Error opening /dev/gpmdata, trying /dev/mouse FBmouseopen: Error opening /dev/mouse Skipping FBputcmap Segmentation fault In the instructions the following advice is found QUOTE 5. Take a look at /mnt/card/debroot/usr/local/bin/zvncserver. Change C700to your model CXX0 if you don't have C700. (I have C750.) If you have aSL5X00, don't change anything. Make sure you edit /usr/local/bin/Fbvnc, add "-hw c700" switch to fbvnc invocation (two places). I would change C700 to C860, but I can't find the places referred to in the files mentioned... I suspect that the versions have been updated since the howto was written. But that's the only way I haven't followed the instructions. Any help appreciated! Thanks |

I have two zaurii, 5500 and c3000, and I'm a big fan of the cacko rom. However I'm feeling a bit abandoned with my c3000. I read all the rave reviews of 1.23 on all the clamshells, old and new, and my 3000 goes without. Any news on when we may see a release for the 3000?

sorry, dude, but I don't think we'll be seeing cacko1.23 for c3000 any time soon; Anton Mas seems to be very busy work wise.
I would guess there are two ways to solve it 1/ unpack cacko1.23 for 3100 or 3200 and combine it with the sharp 3000 distribution, thus making a rom image and a hard disk file system 2/ hope someone else with a 3000 who understands a lot about making roms will do it... the only person I can think of who has the skills AND might have an interest in it would be Meanie. I suppose the key is that most of the 3000's stuff is on the hard drive, so if you had a file system dump from a fresh cacko1.23 install, you could replace a lot of the hard drive files on a directory-by-directory basis.. copy to a new dir, rename old one out of the way and rename new one into place. Provided you knew how to recover the 3000's file systems in the event of a cockup, it'd not be a massive risk. |

Since Maslovsky hasn't logged in since the end of March of this year; I would say that the chances that we will see Cacko 1.24 are slim to none. It's too bad because it is an excellent ROM.

True. Well, I'm helping beta test weeXpc.
I still hold some small hope for pdaXrom. Angstrom's development has progressed somewhat thanks to new blood.. but it's not alpha-quality yet. Cacko is the only "fairly good" distribution I've used (for my C1000). |

Sadly, he's not really made it possible for someone else to take over his work, as there's just not enough documentation and source code to create an updated cacko. |

Is Cacko dead?
I've searched and searched, and can't find a site to download this ROM - only a bunch of very unusable links. And if Cacko really is dead, what's the next easiest ROM to flash for a cautious newbie just getting started into this embedded thing? THANKS! Is Cacko dead? problem is that a lot of files were lost when the forums were down and/or moved, more information here: http://www.zaurus.org.uk/downloads.html http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=cacko I asked Anton if we'd see a new version any time, and he said (and my memory is not clear, so I hope I'm not misquoting) basically that with the loss of files on this forum he'd have to put in quite a bit of effort to reproduce everything, and also that basically Cacko is a "finished" product in that there's not anything new to add since there's nothing new from Sharp to add to it - that said, he didn't have access (AFAIK) to the full 3200 image which I think did have some new stuff. It occurs to me that if we made a list of *realistic* things for cacko 1.24, maybe we could persuade Anton to come out of retirement to do a few updates... so I will create a new thread to do this. Found and downloaded the package from the first url, and will try to install it using the instructions from the second. I also kicked in a few pounds to maintain the download site - I'm glad somebody out there still keeps this image!! Jon (Perlite) |

Jon (Perlite) glad to be of service, and thanks *very* much for the kind donation, very generous of you... it'll spur me on to finish a few things off (I lost a few pages when I migrated from old web hosting to new one, so I need to spend a day checking the site over properly.). btw, I am happy to mirror any other zaurus packages and programs that would be a tragedy if lost. I also offer the promise that I will not (voluntarily) take down my site, and should I ever be in a position to have to give it up, I will do my very best to ensure it is handed over to someone else (free of charge). I grabbed the files from a different site: http://sharpromfeed.home.linuxtogo.org/dow.../cacko/rom1.23/ |
