The idea of using emacs, vi, or even lynx as an ebook (plaintext/html) reader annoys me. Has anyone found a reader program that will organize your books, give you permanent bookmarks by page or chapter, or do anything else that's useful for a reading program?
There has to be something good out there that will compile on a BSD and not use Java or KDE... Help. -Daniel |

You may want to try PyGE (pyge.sourceforge.net) - you will need to install Python and wxPython (2.4.2 works with OpenBSD) before you can run it though.
EDIT: Or maybe not, they moved the IBIBLIO hosting that the browser requires.... let me see if it can be fixed... EDIT: nope... (looks for a new reader - Andy |

I use Just Reader too. I wish Gutenbrowser worked, but the Zaurus bug is still listed as open on sourceforge. Just checked it the other day.

I've gotten Gutenbrowser to work with both the original Sharp ROM and Cacko on my C1000...don't know anything about OpenBSD. I DID have to "fiddle" to get it to work though.

If it's a different app to the one you're thinking of i've used "guten" on my home pc, and wil try it out on the Z a soon as i get a chance.
It's a python app and it works great on my home box. Hope it works on the Z. or is this the gutenbrowser that you're referring to? |

I use JustReader 2.0k and read .gtn files with it all the time on a C1000 Cacko Rom. Just opened some up a minute ago so what is the "bug"??? I use Gutenbrowser 1.54 and I think I copied an old Gutenbrowser.conf file from my old 5500 and got Gutenbrowser to work. I'm attaching the file in case it will help someone, but you would have to change some of the references in the file to suit your own device. QUOTE(tinyrooster @ Jan 22 2006, 06:09 PM)

I use JustReader 2.0k and read .gtn files with it all the time on a C1000 Cacko Rom. Just opened some up a minute ago so what is the "bug"??? I also use JustReader to read project Gutenburg files, but I download them to the desktop as text files and then put them on my Zaurus. The bug with Gutenbrowser can be found listed in the bugtracker on the sourceforge page for this project (http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=870235&group_id=13697&atid=113697). For some reason, the list of available texts loads, but the actual e-book will not load. I get by fine with JustReader, I just think the idea of Gutenbrowser is cool so I wish it worked better. |
