Hi,
today i read the Softmaker Newsletter about an upcoming beta for Office 2006 for ZAURUS - last but not least platform for their 2006 Office line: Sorry in german: Schlag auf Schlag erscheinen jetzt bei SoftMaker die SoftMaker Office-Varianten für die unterstützten Betriebssysteme. SoftMaker Office ist für Windows und für Pocket PCs lieferbar, und unter Linux und FreeBSD läuft gerade der öffentliche Betatest. Bleiben noch zwei Plattformen, die wir bisher nicht angesprochen haben: Windows CE (Handheld PCs) und Sharp Zaurus (Qtopia). Da haben wir gute Nachrichten: für beide Betriebssysteme laufen die Vorbereitungen auf Hochtouren. Es wird sowohl TextMaker 2006 als auch PlanMaker 2006 für Windows CE und für den Sharp Zaurus geben! Der Betatest beginnt in einigen Wochen; wir werden ihn in unserem Newsletter ankündigen. in short they will announce in a few weeks the start of beta for ZAURUS and CE. |

Finally!
However, too late for me. I have switched to pdaXrom, one major reason was the lack of a good spreadsheet application for QTopia. I asked them many times if a Planmaker for Zaurus will be available and they always said it is planned but unsure when it will be released. I'm happy with Gnumeric on pdaXrom. However, I admit I'd rather have Textmaker than Abiword for word processing. daniel |

For those who might be curious, here is the text from the latest english newsletter. I purchased the original 2002 version for the zaurus, but I don't find myself using it that much, even when I am using a Sharp-based ROM, since I've discovered the virtues of a text editor and structured text-like mark-up.
It would be great if they would compile for the Zaurus X11 environments, but I would consider that unlikely. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Preannouncing SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows CE and Zaurus ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now that the Windows and Pocket PC versions of SoftMaker Office are shipping and the Linux and FreeBSD versions are in public beta testing, it is time to talk about the other platforms we have supported in the past: Handheld PCs (Windows CE) and Sharp Zaurus (Qtopia). We have good news for you there: We will continue to support both operating systems. There will be TextMaker 2006 and PlanMaker 2006 for Windows CE and Sharp Zaurus! The only caveat: We will drop support for SH3, SH4, and MIPS CPUs in SoftMaker Office 2006 for Windows CE – you will need a device with StrongARM or XScale CPU. The beta test will begin in the near future; watch our announcements in the newsletters. |

That is a great announcement.
I have been waiting for Planmaker (I already use Textmaker) also for the Zaurus and now we can have both for the Zaurus. I already use them on the Linux desktop. Thanks to Softmaker for the continued support. And yes, I will support this continued development efforts too on my behalf as a Zaurus user. Disclaimer : I am no rabid supporter of Sofmaker in any way nor affiliated or attached to them. Just feel positive about this development effort. |

Any idea when we can see the 2006 Office for Z? It's almost the end of 2006. I guess their 2006 office will be released in 2007
 I am a satisfied customer of their 2003 Textmaker, and can't wait to buy their new product. |

Funnily, this ebay auction claims to have the full office suite in it from Softmaker:

We are selling pre-installed Textmaker full licence copy with each Sharp Zaurus (bundel kit). The Textmaker is still called "Textmaker 2002", but Info says, it's the 2005 revision.
