Well, the title of this thread is my question. Is KDE PIM/Pi dead? There have been no updates since the 2.2.7 testing version from October 2005, the Pi-Sync site has had no news since August 2005, and the KDE PIM/Pi thread on these forums hasn't had any activity since March 2006.
This was one of the most useful apps on my Z, and I suppose I expected it to keep getting better and better and work out all its kinks. There was a promising flurry of activity just before it lost all signs of life. New versions seemed to be coming out every week. And now... nothing. |

There is another thread discussing this here: http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21749

Which also doesn't answer the question of whether or not there is continuing development of KO/Pi and/or KA/Pi. The other thread turned in to a slobbering fanboy thread talking about synchronization. If anyone knows whether KO/Pi and or KA/Pi will be developed further, I and others would like to know.

I had some contact with the author, zautrix, a.k.a. Lutz Rogoswki, shortly before he stopped the development. I have discussed many ideas for improvements and also some bugs with him, and he announced new versions, even with better Outlook sync capabilitities. Unfortunately, something made him stop the further development. There must be some new code for Outlook sync in his hands, but he never released it :-(
So my point of view is that developemnt is dead currently. But hey, it is open source, so everyone is entitled to improve the programs! daniel |

yea, I wish someone that knows what they were doing would take this program on. At least maybe just some bug fixes or minor features. I guess in the meantime I'll try to get an environment set up so I can cross compile to my Z.

Talking about which, is there any way to disable some feature so that it can be lighter and less cluttered?

Whoever picks up the development of this - please, please add an autosave feature to all the modules. TIA.

reposted reply due to utterly mangled formatting in the first attempt.

I've tried to reach him several times about the project. So my point of view is that developemnt is dead currently. Not entirely dead. I'm maintaining a site for updating KDEPIMPI and porting it to the Nokia Internet Tablet Linux distribution. I am offering a free SL-6000L with many accessories to help interest a developer in the project. Michael Klever made some changes to KDEPIMPI, including getting it into the bitbake build mechanism used by Angstrom. I've taken his changes, and released a [very beta] version of KDEPIMPI for the Nokia Internet Tablet (the successor to my Zaurus SL6000). This version has some rough edges, and contains no substantial changes over the 2.2.7 release, but it does work on both the desktop and Nokia Tablet. The source code is available at the Maemo Garage website for KDEPIMPI. The code needs some changes make it fully workable on the Nokia Tablet. Once that happens, there will be a new group of users and potential developers to support the project. But hey, it is open source, so everyone is entitled to improve the programs! daniel |

KDE-Pim/Pi is not dead and will never die.
But for me KDE-Pim/Pi is currently almost feature complete. Such that I am doing not much development. I added some fixes and features to the 2.2.7 version. All that changes are released in the cvs during the last years. But I did not upload a new binary version. (Yes, I know: I was lazy. I just uploaded a new version 2.2.9 for Sharp Rom. z. |
