It's not selling until Q307 but if it's sub-1k or even $700odd, it could be an interesting alternative to the Z.

any specifications yet? If it has touchscreen and all the features of the Kohjinsha (sp?) then it would be a winner!

Definitely not pocketable. But I would imagine it has a touchscreen.

Nice... but to big for what I want... if it is small and portable, I want to be able to put it in a coat pocket...

The hardware looks awesome, but it would only be worth it to me if it ran Linux.

It may be a neat gadget, but it won't replace my Z. Anything that wants to replace it has to be pocketable, have a clamshell design, a keyboard, a touchscreen, and run Linux.

This seems to hit most of those, except for the pocketable part. That is crucial for the carry-anywhere factor of the Z.

Your link mentions the Medion UMPC which appears to be a well put together device.

It is larger than the clamshell Z, but smaller than many of the other UMPCs. It has an impressive set of features and the integrated keyboard looks well done. There is also a quick video interview of a VIA employee who said it will be out soon and the price will be well under $1000.

I would imagine that you can install Linux on anything that can run Vista, true? Also, has anyone heard of a UMPC running Linux in VMware?

The ideal replacement device for my clamshell would be the OQO Model 2. The size is only slightly longer than the Z (so still very pocketable) and has a keyboard. All the built-in wireless. 5 inch LCD, USB, up to 60GB HD. The downside is the price is ridiculous and the battery life sucks. But it should be able to run Linux with no problem.

Well, they lied. The Medion site indicates that the price for this nice toy is $999.

You know, the docking station should just have a full sized keyboard ... that will make it a great desktop-convertor! smile.gif ... but still ... $999 ... sad.gif
