Anybody got a PS3 today?
Did anybody buy one in London and get a free 46" HDTV? Not a bad deal that eh? Was that offer just in London or did they run it anywhere else in England or Europe? I asked to put my ear right up to the display model in our local Dixons today and I'm glad to say that as far as I can tell the PS3 is totally silent- every bit as quiet as the previous models at least. 1-up for Sony there then - the xbox 360 kicks out its fair share of noise (its noisier than my Athlon I'd say) which causes stress and can ruin it for use as a music or movie playback device for some people. I'm eager to see how ardour and zynaddsubfx w/ a USB soundcard will perform on PS3 gentoo. 256MB RAM won't get you all that far though- they messed that bit up but it is supposed to be incredibly fast RAM. |

I have no use for a PS3 since I have Dosbox working on my Zaurus.
In all seriousness, I hear the Australia launch was pretty quiet too. |

According to websites that discuss Blu-ray, getting a PS-3 is the least expensive Blu-ray player available.
Also the deluxe model has a CF/SD card reader built in. All kinds of PS-3 discussions here at blu-ray.com http://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29 |

The PS3 would've made a much bigger splash, I think, if it had come with Debian or Ubuntu with a well configured, tooled-out XFCE 4.4 desktop pre-installed and, most importantly, a proper 3D accelerated X server. They could've then legally bundled a few OGL Linux games like foobillard, xmoto and gunroar and included Blender too as a great productive use of the PS3s 3D capabilities but instead we get X11cripplevision

QUOTE(Capn_Fish @ Mar 23 2007, 02:01 PM) QUOTE(Antikx @ Mar 23 2007, 01:45 PM) Unlike in the US where, unless I am mistaken, somebody got shot over a PS3. Yep this is true... and someone in my city got held at gun point in a parking lot... for his ps3... Its sad what people will do for a game system... I will just stick with my Zaurus I bet no one got mugged for a Zaurus :-) Late |

I hear of more sales for the Nintendo Wii than about the PS3. I heard most people were in line at the stores just to resell them on craigslist or ebay.

Could I please request an end to the postings about death, violence and playstations and change it to a more pleasant and appropriate Linux on the PS3 or maybe hacking the PS3? Yes, people have been fighting over getting a PS3 just as their are multiple wars, fights and even blood rituals and sacrifices going on now but I really don't want want to know about this aspect of the new machine thanks.
So, are there plans to port Angstrom to the PS3? Is anyone working on it already? |

a colleague is really into gaming and rejoiced at the lack of interest as he has a 360 and wants it to remain king. as i understand it there are 3 different variants of 360 dvd drive, all different noise levels; the latest one has a benq drive which is said to be fairly quiet, my colleague's is a samsung which is the noisiest!
the only thing stopping me upgrading my old xbox (chipped, running xbox media centre, which is awesome!) to a 360 is that I'd want one with dvi/hdmi connector and the hd-dvd integrated. |

walmart sent out fliers yesterday (in the mail).
Playstation 3 60GB game console is on one of the inside pages. It's listed as $599.00 US dollars. That seems awfully expensive, especially for being at walmart. It only shows the console and one controller. No included games are shown. Only one controller, for that price, I would think you would get 2 controllers and a bundled game.
