I did nothing to it. I just poped it in, checked it with the system tool, and the it was already viewable on the file manager.

QUOTE(Cresho @ May 22 2007, 05:54 AM) I did nothing to it. I just poped it in, checked it with the system tool, and the it was already viewable on the file manager. I just wanted to post a link to a site that sells the card for $234.95 (minus the rebate of $130). I bought the card and it's on its way; however, the price went up to $299. Why are the prices jumping so much? http://www.buy.com/prod/16GB_Extreme_III_C.../203445868.html |

I just came accross a 16gb sandisk for 109 after rebate. the only problem here is that i cannot post the link due to me traveling around and all you need to do is google 16gb and you will find it.
one reason for the price hike is the demand for it became very high. |

I guess what Cresho is talking about is this one: http://dealmac.com/deals/San-Disk-Extreme-...ore/166751.html
Interesting. Googling a bit I do find quite a few places selling the rebated Extreme III at more or less the same price as J&R, such as http://www.adorama.com/IDSCF16GE3.html?sea...20iii&item_no=7 http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=SDCF16GE3 (You americans are so fortunate ... So Cresho you are also gonna get one of these too? Thanks again for your kind help! The card may change the fate of my Z forever (viz. a small yet significant mutation)! |

Cool, so Cresho now has got his own 16gb card, which is even cheaper!
I don't mind spending a bit more bucks on that ($160), as the card is either unavailable or much more expensive outside US, and I have to take the chance during my short stay in NYC. Thanks for testing the card for me. Can't wait to put that on my 3200... |

So, what will it take to replace the internal hard drive on a 3100 with this baby?

Finally I got the card from Cresho! Thanks!
Just plugged it in and the card is detected and mounted without any issue. Will swap it with the internal MD very soon. |

Good luck. Hope to hear reports on speed/battery life compared to having an internal MD.

I've created a slideshow of the swapping surgery. So far so good.

I've seen cheap MLC cards in UK now (use froogle.google.co.uk) for just GBP90 (US$185) so it looks like there will be some of us in the UK performing open-heart surgery on their zauruses in the near future.
I shall be even more careful than when I tampered and broke my 6000, which, incidentally is still out for repair. |

For the operation, just take extra care of the two brown cables connecting to the screen part and it should be fine. iamsmith's walkthrough is a very good reference here: http://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?act=S...t=0#entry129173 [EDIT] Oh yea, I spot these two after sorting the price: http://www.google.co.uk/product_url?q=http...AAA&gl=uk&hl=en http://www.google.co.uk/product_url?q=http...AAA&gl=uk&hl=en The card is 16MB/sec, so a bit slower than Extreme III (which is 20MB/sec or 133x), but i don't think the speed difference is very obvious when used on Z. Surprised to see that the card prices have slided down so fast. |

QUOTE(ZDevil @ Jun 3 2007, 10:40 PM) I am speculating whether CF cards are now less fashionable so that it's too easy to saturate the market with them and thus force prices down. Most recent/new digicams which need big cards now take SDHC, so less and less people want huge CF cards? |

[there are A-Data 16 Gb cards available for @160 usd at tigerdirect
I wonder how they will survive swapping? I guess with 16 gigs the write-levelling will handle swapfiles pretty well? opinions? any insight on the a-data cards? Anyway, re the price--possibly the cost of manufacture is lower as a result of new tech? |
