Hi all!
Well I thought it would be nice to have a topic about who has or going to get the OpenMoko Freerunner. You all know (or not) it is a "Open" Smartphone. ![]() As you can see no keyboard, just a touchscreen. Well the full specs here: -A very high resolution touch screen (1.7" x 2.27" - 43mm x 58mm) 480x640 pixels -128MB SDRAM memory to allow operation of many applications at once -Internal GPS module for map and tracking programs -Bluetooth for local data exchange -802.11 b/g WiFi for fast web browsing and data transfer -A 400Mhz processor -A hardware Graphics Accelerator chip allowing the acceleration of a limited set of operations. -2 3D accelerometers so that the phone can know its orientation. -2 LEDs illuminating the two buttons on the rim of the case ( -Tri-band GSM and GPRS for North America (850/1800/1900 Mhz) and the rest of the world (900/1800/1900 Mhz) -USB Host function with 500mA power allowing you to power USB devices for short periods But now the question. Who is going to get this sweet piece of Moko? Myself I orderd one and waiting for it What about you? Ciao |

Oh, yeah...I'm also sort of holding out for the N810-form-factor version I guess you are looking for something like this (-WM of course): http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49518 I've been waiting on Openmoko to get the consumer hardware finished for 2 years or so. I've already committed the $$ for it and I'm looking forward to it. While a keyboard would be nice my current phone is on it's last legs and I would like to see the Openmoko project succeed. I also don't see a lack of keyboard being a HUGE problem since there is USB and Bluetooth on the device. Overall, I think it will be a pretty sweet phone. That probably won't come to pass until a year from now when the software matures. The good news is that any later devices will be able to expand on the existing code base. For me it is all about supporting a open platform (more open than Android) with my money. So, I guess I'm a zealot that way. The hardware and current software short comings are not relevant to me when looking at the benefits of freedom on such a platform. I can understand people not thinking it is cool, because there is better hardware and software (see right above). Long term though, I feel that I am making the right choice in supporting OM to keep producing open hardware. |

Still, I need excuses not to get one (my budget couldn't handle it). QUOTE For me it is all about supporting a open platform (more open than Android) with my money. So, I guess I'm a zealot that way. Android is a step in the right direction, but it's not quite what I want. I guess that makes me a zealot too |
