We are still stuck with minimo_0.02+cvs20070626-r0_arm-oabi.ipk on the SIMpad, whereas development went on, and I've just seen an update to the latest version 1.8.1.16 for OpenBSD.

The link you posted is an OpenBSD port [1]. It may not be compilable on linux.
The official minimo is dead (according to [2] ) "On November 27, 2007, project head Doug Turner announced that the project was no longer supported. Well, then we'll have to wait for Firefox Mobile (if it will be possible to squeeze it in for the Angstrom image). Strangely I could not find any useful info on Firefox Mobile.
