You'll need to add a linux partition to the HDD.
There are three partitions: hdd1 ext2 9MB - system files required by sharp/cacko hdd2 ext2 9MB - system files required by sharp/cacko hdd3 Vfat Almost 4 GB C3100, Almost 6GB C3200, (minus 18MB) used to connect to windows machines for storage. Meanie suggests to partition up the last partition into two partitions. You'll need a linux partition, let's say hdd4 Once you have that accomplished, you can install pkgs to it. The GUI installer, (qinstall) will NOT "see" this new partition. You need to install pkgs in the commandline. The best way to do this is to use a feed that will pull the dependencies along with the pkg that you want to install. |

I'm feeling kind of at a loss for what to recommend at the moment. PdaXrom requires several tweaks (Beta 3 might be nice for you, though), and Angstrom seems to be in sad shape (WEP didn't work in the stable branch last I tried it, and the dev branch was buggier than ever, to the point of near-unusability). Many people like Debian (I find it slow, but nobody else seems to notice it). It's up-to-date and has the latest apps. You may want to try that (installation isn't too bad either, just untar and go, IIRC, assuming you have an SD/CF card large enough to hold the rootfs).

A bit off topic, but still referring to different distros. Why is it that a lot of people went to Debian instead of Angstrom? Angstrom is optimized for embedded devices, isn't it? Also, it seems that Debian and Angstrom have a lot in common. Do Debian packages work in Angstrom? If not completely, but do some Debian pkgs work in Angstrom? The latest version of Angstrom, which I'm using seems to lack quite a lot of packages, or packages that I would like to see that actually work. On another note, Angstrom seems to boot quickly, and restarting X is extremely fast, compared to restarting X in pdaxii13, but small applications seem to bring Angstrom down to its knees. I opened 2 instances of leafpad, so I could copy/paste from one file to another. Angstrom's CPU/MEM meter went through the roof and I had to restart X. I didn't have a swapfile enabled at the time, but leafpad, is just a tiny text editor. I'd be afraid to see what would happen if I did the same thing as above with one instance each of leafpad and abiword. |
