Hello,

Just another rootfs to play while waiting for the next cortez release

Upgraded "Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1" (Handhelds' Mojo Ubuntu Hardy 8.04 [Hasty]) to "Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 ARMEL".
Repository: http://ports.ubuntu.com/dists/jaunty/

One can install the linked rootfs or upgrade from the original cortez-rootfs.

Post UPDATES:
- all questions in Zubuntu Rc1 thread apply to this rootfs.
- for 760-860 zaurii read following posts to fix touchscreen and keymap bugs.
- removed "lost+found" folder from rootfs, my fault. sorry. new rootfs linked.
- installed, disabled and put "on hold" the package apt-xapian-index (eat too much resources).
- added recomendation about checking bad block before install.

BACKUP your existing system.
For an SD card, "halt" zaurus and from your linux pc with the sd card mounted, type:

- After formating and before extracting the rootfs, you should check and mark bad block in sd card:

fsck -fcp /dev/sdb1

where /dev/sdb1 is the partition of your SD card
- How to extract the .tar.bz2 file:

- Remember to add the kernel and modules from Omegamoon and edit /etc/fstab.

- Has a "fake" boot splash. To disable it add "psplash=false" in /boot/kernel-cmdline.
- "Home" key is Terminal launcher, "Mail" key is WiFi toggle, "Alt+`" is F11 [fullscreen].

UPGRADE your existing "Zubuntu 1.0 Rc1":
1. in files /var/lib/dpkg/status and /var/lib/dpkg/available
replace all "Architecture: arm" with "Architecture: armel"

2. in file /etc/apt/apt.conf add:

APT::Architecture "armel";
Dpkg::Options:: "--force-architecture";

3. in file /etc/apt/sources.list remove everything and add:

Connection Manager

• connman The core Connection Manager daemon (connmand) and plug-ins for Ethernet, WiFi, Bluetooth, DHCP (udhcpc and dhclient), resolvconf, DNS proxy and PolicyKit
• connman-gnome The GTK+-based user interfaces for an applet and a properties dialog.

Like network-manager from gnome, you have to comment all lines in /etc/network/interfaces

Custom setup:
I launch it with a shell script (connman-min) that kills the tray interface after one minute to save memory, the daemon is very lightweight.
I use stalonetray as the tray system, if you have a working tray function in your desktop, don't install stalonetray and remove the related lines in connman-min.

connman-min.tar has the .stalonetrayrc (put it in /root/ or your home directory) and the connman-min shell script (put it in /usr/bin or any binary folder)

Just tested it for wifi and its working nicely here too.
I just ran connman-applet from the run box of lxde for testing purposes.
I'm having all sorts of problems with bluetooth though, according to what I have read bluetooth connections seem to require having been set up in bluez before connman can work with them, and the problem there is how to get pairing working with the new bluez stack.

I cant get bluetooth-wizard to run due to dbus problems:

"Can't get session bus: failed execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session"

you need to upgrade dbus.

in order to get Bluetooth to work,

i installed gnome-bluetooth, bluez-gnome, and upgraded dbus.

run bluetooth-applet then rfcomm connect, you will then get a pairing request.
Really stupid as hcitool auth didn't do a thing. Also make sure that hciconfig auth is enabled.

i was unable to get Dun working with wvdial, but Pon works and without any init scrips!

now all i need is to find a way to automate hciattach. supposedly bluez-pcmcia-support is supposed to do this, but i haven't had any luck yet.

I upgraded my RC1 to Jaunty as described in this thread and everything seemed to go smoothly. However when I rebooted I was asked for a password, for the root account, which I do not know/have not defined.

Any ideas how to get around this?

if your have ubuntu on an sd, boot a ubuntu live cd and mount the sd , then edit (as root) the /media/sd-path/etc/shadow

and remove the "!" in the root:!:... line

for example from this
root:!:14266:0:99999:7:::

to this
root::14266:0:99999:7:::

I will try to patch the shadow file on my Arch Linux Desktop. I have never had to do this in 14 years of using GNU/Linux!
