A surprise move from Sharp: the long-awaited (by some) successor to the Zaurus, a new clamshell "MID" running Android, with a beautiful 5" 960x480 screen, a Snapdragon CPU and plenty of goodies:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/30/sharp-i...-au-to-android/ Engadget goes "meh", which is a pretty good omen in my book :-) Also there will be a "developer-friendly" version dubbed DK01 where the OS is replaceable. Maybe we will see Maemo, Mer and/or Meego on it ? --edit--url fixed by admin-- |

Did anyone get the Sharp IS01 and try it out first hand?
Just curious what the hands on impressions were. UPDATE: oops, just realized this thread is over a year old... but then again, still a valid question I guess.... hopefully the IS01 was upgradable from snapdragon to latest. |

I doubt you can upgrade the snapdragon processor to something else. Most, if not all mobile devices are specially designed so they can be so small. It is a system-on-a-chip anyway. I took a look at it while I was in Japan last year. It didn't really impress me that much. One cool thing is it IS a phone provided you use a bluetooth headset. I still want a larger screen if I am going to have a clamshell portable. |
