ZAURUS LOVERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!
After an absence of more than one year, I hereby return to active OESF membership. The gift of an only slightly used SL-C1000 and postponement of a smart phone purchase have renewed my interest in fiddling with my Z, and I am delighted to find OESF still alive. As my first feat of renewed Z-wizardry, I finally got Developer Image version 1.6 running on my new Z, a trick which eluded me for years of previous trying. I may try brushing-up the ELSI entries for some of my favorite packages. Too many are fading into the deep aether. Must keep the embers glowing as long as a few Zs survive unbricked. Be seeing you. |

Welcome back!
Any hint as to which packages you are thinking of updating ? ELSI is a bit of an unloved child at the moment, too many ghost projects with dead links. What is really needed is someone to go through and tidy it up. Also an infusion of new software would help, as well as newer ports. I don't know what this developer image is but please tell us more. |

Welcome back! Thank you. QUOTE Any hint as to which packages you are thinking of updating ? ELSI is a bit of an unloved child at the moment, too many ghost projects with dead links. Amen on the state of ELSI. However, it's still the biggest collection of Z software I know of, and I hope it stays available as long as there's any working Zs. For the time being, I want to update entries and find safe homes for link-rotted packages for the software I use (the following is a just list of packages I've put on my new SL-C1000; they do not all necessarily need work on their ELSI entries):
One problem is I don't yet have a cross-compiler set up, so until I do I won't be able to update any of the package binaries. However, I think it will still be useful to update repository links, improve some of the installation scripts, and register packages not already in ELSI. QUOTE I don't know what this developer image is but please tell us more. It's a compressed file system (squashfs) with gcc, libraries, and other tools for building programs natively on the Z. It's similar to Jeffrey Fox's zgcc package, though the collection of libraries and tools is a bit larger than zgcc's (zgcc is better documented, though). |

Welcome back.
I still use my Z and my ZaurusFeed is still up. 263+ packages and more, many of which cannot be found anywhere else online. http://quickening.zapto.org/ZaurusFeed/ |
