derek4100,
I am very sorry. The only thing I can think of is to let it charge overnight till the charge light goes off, then remove battery for a few hours, put in the battery again and try to bring up the menu. Post your problem at the 5xxx forum here also. Hopefully someone else will come up with a solution. When I updated the ROM of my 5600, I used the USB connection with my PC. Later on, I also used the CF card to flash the updated kernel without any problem. |

Make sure your battery has a full charge then remove it for about 2 hr. Replace it and try to access the maintenance menu. If you can access the maintenance menu try to update rom with new files. If you absolutely can't access the maintenance menu then you can try the service menu by pressing D+M and the hard reset button in the battery compartment. If you can access this menu be very careful in there. Do not do anything yet, just use the cancel key to close. Before proceeding please read these threads because if you make a mistake in the service menu you can brick your Z! Read: http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...light=nand+5600 and http://www.zaurususergroup.com/index.php?n...light=nand+5600 My Disclaimer: I will not be responsible for any damage to your Zaurus caused by using the suggested instructions in this post. Now you must D/L a NAND file.(DBK file) Inuyasha stated in another tread that he was going to post a NAND image of the Sharp Rom 1.32 ...so you can PM him or use this one. SYST5600.DBK: http://www.galacticslacker.com/zaurus_sl5600.shtml Note: I have never used this file and only know of it's existence threw this forum. I have my own 66.1mb DBK file but I'm on 56K dail-up so I can't send it to you, sorry. Now rename the file SYST5600.DBK (if not already) and place on a FAT-16 formatted CF-card and insert in your Zaurus. Make sure the AC power is connected. Now is your last chance to ask any questions if your not sure what you are doing! Open the service menu by pressing D+M and the hard reset button in the battery compartment. Only navigate with the cursor keys(do not use stylus in service menu) and select with the center of cursor key, or use the cancel key to exit without change. Now go to the 4th menu using the cursor keys and select #3 Nand Flash Restore with the center of the cursor key, or the 'OK' key. This will take a few minutes to complete, then you have to do a hard reset. Good luck Greg |

Greg2,
Your instructions are lucid and easily understandeable. IMHO this should be placed in the 'HowTo' section along with the (if possible) NAND backups. This'll be a great help to anyone who has bricked their Z. Thanks for the great advice. Hope this works for derek4100. |

wizzard, hi Wizzard,
I wonder you have any idea on how to send the device back to Sharp. The device warranty may be void. If you know there is a way to clean this mess up or maybe Sharp can restore the OS and ship back to me. if you know someone do this before or have same problem Please let me know. thanks Hung Nguyen |

Did you try what Greg2 suggested first?
Where are you located and when did you get your Z. AFAIK Sharp has a 1year warranty. |

I hope the above will help. hi - thanks for the reply, but thats not the DBK i need, as far as i can tell, that has info on reflashing if you can get past the maintenence menus, but no matter what i selectin the (Cancel+OK) maintenence menu i get a black screen. i need to replace the whole thing from the D+M+reset maintenence menu. thanks! |
