I have a 5500 and am trying to use an OEM Proxim PCMCIA wifi with my cf-pcmcia adapter under the latest Sharp ROM. This thing worked beautifully in OZ, but the Sharp ROM doesn't cooperate with it. Cardctl ident gives the following:
Socket 0: product info: "PROXIM", "LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B", "", "" manfid: 0x0126, 0x0002 function: 6 (network) Socket 1: no product info available I tried adding the following to wlan-ng.conf, but got no results: card "PROXIM LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B" version "PROXIM", "LAN PC CARD HARMONY 80211B" manfid 0x0126, 0x0002 bind "prism_cs" I looked around and discovered that the orinoco_cs.o is not present under this rom. I'm assuming I need to use that, but how do I get it installed? Does anyone have a copy they can email me that was compiled for their Sharp ROM? Also, once I have that, will my entry above work if I change prism to orinoco, or does that entry look bad? Will there be more changes to make than just these? I would just go back to OZ, but I rely heavily on the alarm function, and I had too many stability problems with that under OZ, i.e. missed appointments because the alarm failed to go off. Is there such a thing as a perfect Linux for the Zaurus? Sigh.... Thanks for any help. Peace, Todd |

Dan,
Thanks for the reply. I was using the OZ 3.2 stable. I liked it, but kept having weird problems with some apps and occasionally the alarm of the Calendar program would fail to wake the Z from suspend mode. This got me in trouble twice, so I went back to Sharp, knowing that it would mean no more wireless. Having wireless is fun and all, but I have ADHD and a bad memory, so the alarms are the most importnat feature of all. I just recently started using KO/Pi(this program rocks!) for my calendar program, though, and maybe it would work fine on OZ. If so, that would be enough. So, if you really don't mind, try installing KO/Pi and set a few events with alarms and see if it wakes the Z properly. If so, I may switch back. Which OZ are you using? I have found that Sharp 3.13 is generally faster than OZ 3.2 and it doesn't have the weird card reading slowness that OZ could have at times. For some reason, Opie Media Player 2 sounded a little worse on mp3s than the Sharp Media Player. I guess it was a flaky libmp3 or something. I've been checking the OZ site everyday(sometimes several times a day) for the past 6 months hoping that the OpenEmbedded port over would be released so I could try it out. If you know of a version that is later and more stable than 3.2, though, I may just try it and see, then hang on there for a while. Since I depend upon the thing so much, I can only do so much experimenting. Thanks for offering to help, Todd |
