In reference to this post, I was wondering if we could have this implemented into the next X11 ROM please?

The thread cited by foxdie isn't about an overclocking utility, but about compiling a patched C860 kernel to make your Z run faster.

Can I use your kernel as a drop-in replacement? Is there a way to just flash the zimage.bin and not do anything to the filesystem?

I don't want to install the whole X11 ROM. I already have cacko 1.18 (qtopia). Can this work?

I tried wget'ing that file to the ZUG site at about 2KB/sec, but aborted. I am downloading it at about 5K/sec and I'll upload it manually then.

Sashz would you like to upload the new ROM's straight to our server as a mirror whenever they are released?

It can be helpful to use patches for ROM and kernel upgrades.

Anyone know how fast the C7x0 CPU can be safely pushed? All the values seem too high or too low when I fiddle with them, and I've no idea how to activate Turbo mode.

I'm confused... is the new kernel a pre-emptive (and what does this provide, really?)
or an overclocking (and isn't this dangerous?) ... and/or something else?

the performance boost looked like almost 2x. 400Mhz to 471Mhz shouldn't give 2x
performance -- so what gives?

Scott

After restoring an old backup after flashing a new ROM I have lost the qclockchange and usbdconfig applets. Is there any chance of these being made IPK's to install seperately?

Preemptive cuts out some of the fat on the execution..However, it seems to affect other aspects of the Z, and may negatively impact modules. Some have seen success, and others have not. A clean implementation of preemptive should theoretically not affect the rest of the machine...but the current patches floating around seem to have a negative impact on certain aspects (USB, crashes).

Overclocking will enhance the performance of you Z, but you will be potentially exposing the processor to high heat without the ability to dissipate that heat. This is not only bad for the processor, but also bad for other components in the Z. Not to mention the hit on your battery...I doubt you would squeeze much time using it under such a load. I would say the overclock is much more risky from a physical perspective.

Be careful.
