Hey All,
I've been trying for day now to flash my Z with OZ from a CS. I've tried hodling down the "C" and "D" keys while hitting the full reset button. And no light come on at all. I have the initrd.bin and zImage in the root directory of the CF card. What can I try? Roger |

I tried to mention everything in my previous post, but i guess i forgot a few things.
It's an SL5500 The card is new, so i'm guessing it should be the correct format. Is there a way I can check on the Z? |

Can you get your hands on a different CF card? Personally I've found that some CFs simply will not flash the Zaurus. i.e. I have a nearly new Dane-Elec card (really a rebranded Samsung) which refuses to flash while my 2 year old Viking card (rebranded Toshiba) flashes fine. Though I've had reports from people with new Viking cards (still Toshibas) that don't flash.

Shouldn't the card be fat16?
(I suppose I should really know this by now ;-) Si |

vfat is the Linux name for any of the FAT formats, by default mkfs.vfat will create either FAT12 or FAT16 formatted partitions (automatically selected based on partition size). FAT32 partitions must be explicitly requested with the -F32 parameter when using mkfs.vfat (-F16 can be used to make sure it's done as FAT16).

I only have one card.
Should I try to format the card? How would you do that on the Z. Any other ideas? |

umount /dev/hda1
mkfs.vfat -F16 /dev/hda1 But in all likelyhood that's how it was formatted when you purchased it. |

Yes, You are right that didn't make a diffrence.
Would there be another reasons for the lights not to come on at all?? even with sharps ROM I could'nt flash it from the CF. |

i did bought transcend 256Mb CF card for zaurus and I tried to flash with, no lights!
I did try couple times and formatted both time it before flashing (fat16) no success, same thing with my digitalcameras 64Mb micro memory's CF card. but with my cameras other card which is Sandisk 128Mb it did work, same was with Sandisk's 512Mb card. So my conclusion was that all CF cards just won't work with flashing! All card works great when just reading and writing in files from cards in Z. |

Doesn't the 5500 need to be flashed from SD rather than CF?
I'm not too sure, since I have a 5600. I'm pretty sure I read this here somewhere. radioz |

QUOTE Doesn't the 5500 need to be flashed from SD rather than CF? No. The 5500/5000D can only be flashed with a CF card. Si |
