It seems to me that the current state of the kernel as far as Debian on Zaurus is concerned is farcical.
It looks like Yonggun kernel development has ground to a halt, and my experiments with the Ubuntu kernel were not very promising.
In a lot of ways I would be happy to stick with the last Yonggun kernel, but the problem is that Debian has now moved forward and things are getting messy.

Users have got to stick with an old version of Udev and my gut feeling is that soon stuff is going to break which will result in users not having an upgradeable install.

So how do we move forward?

Is building an updated kernel for Zaurus something practical for end users? I'm pretty geeky but I don't think it will be easy to manage all the patches manually.

Is the Poky kernel a suitable candidate? I've seen it referred to, but has anyone tried it? I found the Ubuntu kernel "messy" with Debian on the Zaurus but I can't remember exactly what I didnt like about it.

Is anyone actively carrying out work on Yongguns sources?

Someone said that the problem is that charging is somehow broken with newer kernels, is this being worked on and by who?
Is there a freenode channel where people working on that hang out by any chance?

Does anyone have a working "mapper.txt" file for Dosbox on Debian (specifically for C3200)?
It seems to be working well, but I can't for the life of me get the key mappings to work properly.

I am interested to know if anyone is using Jaunty / Zubuntu with alternative kernels?
I really like the work that Cortez has done on Zubuntu and Jaunty now seems to be working well, but I'm not too fond of the Omegamoon kernel.
It's just downright strange. I cant use ssh as a normal user, I get all sorts of weirdo socket creation issues with various apps, and I had to diddle the dhcp client with setuid to get that to work. At the moment I am considering trying out the Yonggun kernel because I have had pretty good experiences using that with Debian.

What other kernels have people tried?

I'm running Zubuntu and I have dist-upgraded to Jaunty.
For the most part it seems very good indeed, but I've noticed a couple of strange issues.
The one that is puzzling me at the moment is that I can only run ncmpc as root.
If I try to run it as a non root user it dies with socket creation problems.
Presumably this is some sort of permissions issue, can anyone give me any pointers?

I am running debian on zaurus in pure console mode (I find a gui pretty impractical for my use of the zaurus), but I am plagued with annoying messages spewed all over my console normally at the most inappropriate times!

The worst culpret is wifi which keeps writing diagnostic stuff all over whatever I am currently doing.

I've looked at the syslog config and I can't see anything obvious there, is there somewhere where I can turn this off?
