I have an old SL-5500 I am attempting to make into an iPod (that is, and iPod that plays Oggs). I have been very pleased with Zplayer (with mplayer underneath) on my SL-6000. However the mplayer binary I run on my SL-6000 doesn't play (illegal instruction, or some sort).
I have downloaded several 'pre' version of mplayer 0.90 (ie. mplayer_0.90pre10_arm.ipk), but they only play when root, not as an unprivilaged user. I have tried running Zplayer as root (doesn't work), changing mplayer to SUID root, doesn't work.
Does anyone have a mplayer ipk which does work on an SL-5500 as non-root?

Sorry if this has been brought up before.
My Pocketop keyboard is dying (too many open and closes has caused the right side keys to be intermittent). I use my SL-6000 and the keyboard everyday (I take a lot of notes at work). So I am looking for a replacement which will be compatible with the IRK driver. I know the Targus is, however it is a bit large.
Has anyone had any experience with the Belkin F8U1500 IR Universal Wireless Keyboard?
It looks like the IR port is in a good place (for typing on the SL-6000 while rotated to the left), and the price is right.
Any one have any experiences with this keyboard and IRK?

Anyone see this cool little thumb-drive sized spectrum analyzer?
They even say that the friendly folks at Kismet have created X/Linux based software:
Since it looks like gtk libraries are used, will this work on X/Qt? Is it possible, Meanie? It would make a really cool Wireless analyzing machine.

I am hoping someone has conquered this problem. I am trying to get Samba running on the SL-6000, and the smbd daemon just dies.
I am using the same smb.conf file that works well on my SL-5500, and everything seems to be the same as the SL-5500 (same config file, daemons are the same length in bytes, same version of kernel). I have run the daemon with -d 10 (to see debug) and there is no explaination as to why the daemon dies.
Both machines are running Sharp ROMs (the latest for each).
Anyone have this working on a SL-6000?

I have two Zaurus's, a SL-6000 which I use as my PDA everywhere, and my old SL-5500, which spends most of its life on a shelf, turned on, and on my wireless network (a great thing to ping when I need to test the wireless network).
So the SL-5500 has lots of uptime, since it is on 24x7. I have been monitoring the uptime, and it has been incrementing nicely. I thought it was doing pretty well after it passed 400 days of uptime.
Imagine my surprise when I checked the uptime today to see that it is only 7 days of uptime! Checking the last log, it is clear that the SL-5500 hasn't rebooted since 9 April 2004, so something was off.
Not the end of the world. I guess Sharp (or Embedix) wasn't planning on the Zaurus being "up" for so long. The little Linux box that could.
