GPE seems to be working really nicely here with OZ 3.5.4 on my Zaurus collie. I am using Sunbird Calendar (windows) at my office and the calendar extension in Thunderbird (Mepis Linux) at home. I have access to a server that supports webdav and save the calendar there from both locations so I have an up to date version of my calendar that I can read and edit from work or at home.
What I am wondering is whether there is a way to access the same calendar using GPE Calendar. Will it support loading and editiing a remote file in this way? It doesn't look like there is a way to do it but I thought I would ask here in case anyone knows a way. Ken

I have managed to get both gpe and opie images of 3.5.4 running from the sd card as root using altboot.
I have again spent most of a weekend trying to get opie working well, and, well, I must be opie challenged. The package manger is worse than before, konqueror still doesn't install propertly and so far as I can see opie t is no better than the earlier version which, for me at least, was interesting but not useable for actual work. Poking around in gpe, it is lookng more complete than before but I still have these issues: 1. Are other finding that the package manager crashes often with a message about the back end having failed? 2. Is dillo what people are using for a web browser? 3. I would like to install gpe-mail but it isn't in the stock feed. 4. I would like to install gpe-gaim but it isn't there either. I have had a lot of fun with my collie in the year and a half that I have had it, but I am begining to think it will be obsolete before I figure out how to actually get it set up as a useable device. I have OZ 3.5.4 set up to boot from sd using altboot and I am exploring GPE. I see mention of gpe-mail but can't find it in the package list. mailx is there, but I am guessing that is not the same thing. Any hints?

Thanks for all the work on this new release, it looks good. I have done a 64-0 install on my Collie choosing Opie. So far so good, but I want to move the root to the SD card.
I have read http://www.hentges.net/misc/openzaurus/docs/altboot.shtml and I think I understand it. I went to http://ewi546.ewi.utwente.nl/mirror/www.op...ollie/tarballs/ and got all 3 images, bootstrap, gpe and opie. I put them on the cf card, put that into the zaurus and used filemanager to copy them across to the sd card putting them into a folder called /boot-images. Hoping it was a simple as that, I rebooted the zaurus, and from the Altboot menu, chose 8 Install RootFS from tar.gz. I got an error saying that altboot doesn't yet support using multiple files this way, so I deleted the bootstrap and gpe files leaving the opie version called opie-image-3.5.4-collie.rootfs.tar.gz Rebooted and made the same menu choice. Got the same error. I would like to end up being able to use Altboot to choose from opie or gpe when booting but I am missing something. Any suggestions? Ken

I am using OZ 3.5.4(rc) on a Zaurus 5500. I have a Targus "Universal Wireless Keyboard" that I understand can be used on the Z. So far I don't have it running.
I wanted to use the Z in Landscape mode and found that I can change the direction of the screen rotation in the Appearance settings. That is good because otherwise the IR port would be facing down and not be accessible. Questions I have at this point are What is the best way to attach the Z to the keyboard? What package do I need to install in the Z to get it talking to the keyboard? Anyone else doing this? I know that it does get used with the Z, but haven't got it going here yet. Cheers Ken |
