Hi All,
I'd like to port some SDL apps and develop directly on the Zaurus, but I'm stuck at a critical step here. Any pointers you can give me would be appreciated. I'm an experienced C coder, but not so experienced with SDL, or development on the Z. I'm trying to get an SDL program I wrote working on the Z (I have a C860) via onboard development - Not using a cross compiler, but building using zgcc 2.95-2 on the stock Sharp ROM. The program compiles and runs just fine on a PC, but dies on the Zaurus with the infamous: -- QPaintDevice: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice Aborted -- I've read that this error is often due to a missing link to libSDLmain.a, but I'm linking to it already! I built my own SDL using the CVS version of the zports SDL. Since the checked out zports version was missing some files, I merged it with a vanilla copy of SDL 1.2.8 - hopefully that isn't causing some funkiness (I assume it isn't since my compiled version of SDL doesn't seem to crash my existing SDL programs). Here are the build options I used to compile SDL onboard: #!/bin/bash OPTIMIZE=" -O3 -fexpensive-optimizations -funroll-loops -fomit-frame-pointer " export CFLAGS="$OPTIMIZE -DZAURUS_SL=1" ./configure --enable-video-qtopia --disable-video-dummy --disable-video-fbcon - -disable-video-dga --disable-arts --disable-esd --disable-alsa --disable-video-x 11 --disable-nasm --prefix=/opt/QtPalmtop Here's the relevant part of the Makefile for my program: -- CFLAGS=-Wall -g ${SDLINC} SDLLIB=-lqte -lqpe -lSDLmain -lSDL -L/mnt/cf/.zgcc/lib -lm -lc /lib/libpthread.so.0 #note: funky link to pthread above is due to missing symlink in /lib SDLINC=-D_REENTRANT -I/mnt/cf/.include/Qtopia CC=$(GCCPREFIX)gcc ${CFLAGS} foo: foo.o ${OBJ} ${CC} ${CFLAGS} foo.o ${OBJ} -o foo ${SDLLIB} -- Any help would be greatly appreciated - I hope I'm just missing something obvious (Wouldn't be the first time) ;-) Thanks, Ford

Hi All,
Just played with the C1000 in Bic Camera in Japan, and picked up a brochure on it. They just arrived in store today. Bic has them for 49800 Yen (About $475 US at current exchange rate). Bic Camera is a big chain store here in Japan, so expect big store prices. Note that this price is about 10000 Yen ($95US) less than what they were selling the C860 for *yesterday*. In fact, the C860 has no price drop yet. I presume they just haven't updated the display... Subjectively the C1000 feels quite a bit lighter than the C3000, even though the supposed difference is only 20g. The case is exactly the same as the C3000 except in colour scheme. For some reason it seems smaller, even though it isn't. Weird. Anyone else played with one and got the same impression? They also had the C3000 and C860 on hand so I got to compare all three. I really like the new case. The black looks cool. I have a C860 and I am (almost) tempted to upgrade solely on the aesthetics serious case of newmodelmustupgradeitis coming on Incidentally, I checked the System Info program on the C1000 (in Japanese). There's a tab for devices, and it had no no mention of a second CF slot. Only one SD, CF and USB. Of course that doesn't conclusively prove that there isn't another one in there If you guys have specific things you want me to check out, lemme know and I'll go do it (assuming the store staff won't throw me out first Cheers, Ford

Hi guys,
I noticed that the 6GB iPods came out recently. Also heard a rumour in another thread that there might be a new Zaurus in March... Putting 2 and 2 together, how about a C3000 with 6GB microdrive (C3100?) Would be a trivial upgrade for Sharp's engineers to implement. Could be an interim model that comes out before the big upgrade to the pre-announced (?) 8-10GB microdrives later this year. I'm hoping for a smaller C3000 (Don't like to see the size progressively creeping up) and more RAM, but I don't have my hopes set too high What do you all think? What would you like to see in a new model clamshell Zaurus? Cheers, Ford |
