Hey, Penguin People, gotta question for you...

Can anyone sync a Zaurus SL-5600 with any Linux kernel? The only desktop software out there that I'm aware of right now is QtopiaDesktop. Is there another?

Here is my dilema: I have a 5600 that I cannot sync with Linux. I can ping it in a term window, but I cannot get it to sync via usb0 (the stinkin cradle). My next and last option is to buy a CompactFlash ethernet card and see if I can get it to sync that way. BUT (and here's the kicker), if I cannot sync this unit with my desktop, I cannot use it. If QtopiaDesktop will not work with the 5600, not even with a CompactFlash ethernet card and regular IP on my LAN, then I need to sell this piece of $%#& and get something that will. I like my Z, but I need to be able to SYNC my Z. If I can't, I'm dumping it on eBay.

Anyone out there able to sync???

FWIW: I could not connect my Z with RH8 or any kernel that I patched myself per any How-To anywhere. So, I got a copy of Slackware 9.1 that is being shipped with kernel 2.4.22 and built-in (module) support for Linux pda "network" connection via a usb port.

It was plug and play. I installed Slack 9.1, plugged in the cradle, the Z, turned it on and...
ifconfig -a -- brought up usb0.
ifconfig usb0 192.168.129.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
route add -host 192.168.129.201 usb0

ping 192.168.129.201 registered 100%.

I have yet to try a sync with Qtopia Desktop, so I cannot vouche for a true "sync," yet. But, hey, this is progress (at least for me).

Hey, folks. I'm in the market for a CF RJ-45 ethernet card for my Z 5600. Don't want wireless (too many war drivers out there, and I like paranoia).

I did a search on eBay and a bunch jumped out at me. Does anyone know about compatiblity issues with the Z? Should I stay away from certain brands, go with others, etc.? Anyone have good luck with one, or bad luck with another?

Thanks.

When the Zaurus is synced with Windows, which are the files on the Windows system that hold the information? I would like to be able to copy those files from one machine to another and maintain various copies of my PIM info (address book, calendar, todo, docs) on various machines that I work at (some of which do not have sync ability).

I am using qtopiadesktop.

Thanks!

I patched my RH8 kernel with the usbdnet driver and installed it as a module. It didn't work to sync my Z, so (as per my last thread) I want to try to sync with usbnet.

I did rmmod usbdnet and now usbdnet does not show up in lsmod.

make && make install of usbnet returned errors.

When I put my Z in the cradle and watch /var/log/messages, it's still registering usbdnet (that it's looking for to make the connection).

Does anyone know how to clean usbdnet off my system so that usbnet is sought for instead?

I'm trying to hunt down an rpm for usbnet to see if I can get that installed with no errors.
