Just alittle note to anyone thinking of having a go at compiling a few apps but have been put off in the past by the "mumbo jumbo" that seems to surround the issue.

I highly recomend giving the new OpenEmbedded build structure ago. For one thing most of the hard work has been done for you and by simply following the instructions here

You will be well on your way

Note: # autoconf-native_2.57.oe is now 2.59 and automake-native_1.7.7.oe is now 1.8.2

(mickeyl you might want to update the autoconf/automake versions in the instructions as although obvious when you look its always nice to have the instructions work with copy paste to build up your confidence when your starting out)

Although I'm a relative newbie I find the build structure a pleasure to work with and have already compiled my first few apps.

Well done OE team

Have mentioned it elsewhere but thought I would post seperatley in case it got missed.

The ZUG Downloads are --er--Down. When you try to grab a file you get the download dialouge but only get a 0 byte file.

I have treid 3 times to upload a new file and on each occasion it looks like its nearly finnished then reports "Error failed to upload file" or something like that. Can someone have a look please.

I have put together a 5500 kernel with up to date drivers and wireless exstensions. I don't have a 5500 and so can't test it myself but dx is kindly doing so and is running into problems getting Wellenreiter to work.

The question I need to answer is whether this is just a card problem such as a number of people have with the 7x0 series or if I've done something wrong.

Has anyone out there got a 5500 and a Socket low power ethernet card (I know this works on 7x0) that would like to try and answer this question ?

Send a pm and I will email it to you.

Once this part is completed I will add pre-emptive bits and upload to ZUG for everyone.

Hi All

I know a lot of people are waiting for javaboy's latest kernel to get uploaded somewhere (myself included) for those who can't wait you can download one I have made. it includes the latest spectrum / orinoco drivers patched with the orinoco beta 0.14 patch to enable monitor mode and includes the premptive patches as per ced's instructions elsewhere. Works fine for me with a Drystone results of:

Microseconds 2.2
Dhrystones / second 462491.9
VAX MIPS 263.228

As useual use at your own risk and don't blame me if it doesn't work for you.

Download via ftp.
