Hi guys,
the OpenEZX project aims to replace the Motorola distribution on these phones with a stack fully based on open source software. The kernel guy is making great progress with 2.6.16 and I added first support for the phone in OpenEmbedded. If you want to get one of those, then act now or come too late - unfortunately the phone seems to be nearly sold out and MOTO stopped producing it. I just ordered mine at ARP DATACON (http://www.arp.com) who seems to have some in stock. For me it's a great opportunity to have an Embedded Linux phone with (not now, but hopefully soon) Opie, E and GPE on it, this is why I'm posting about it.

Hi SharpROM and clones-lovers,
I've updated my python-for-arm-linux feed at PythonForSharpROM with Python 2.4.3. This time I used a very ancient Embedix SDK in order to make the packages work with the SharpROM. I'd be interested in knowing *) whether they work for you and *) whether the SharpROM feed is still of any use for you. The URL for the project page is Python-for-arm-linux - note that the package browser points to the "modern" feed, which is atm. older than the SharpROM feed ;-) Happy Python'ing,

The 16MB (actually 14.5MB) default Opie image for SL5500/SL5000 has not enough room for both PIM apps and a web browser. If you were to decide whether to have the Opie PIM apps or the Konq/E installed by default, what would you chose?

Due to some size contraints, I'm evaluating to remove one PIM data backend in the forthcoming OpenZaurus 3.5.4/Opie for SL5000/SL5500 Image. (On the other models, we have enough space to include both per default).
I'm leaning towards removing the sqlite backend for the collie image, but I will reconsider this if many people are telling me they're using this backend. So - please participate on this poll if you have a collie and are using the Opie PIM apps. |
