Okay... Took a flash card and downloaded OpenZaurus and OPIE...

Took the image labeled 64-0 and renamed it "zImage" as per the instructions.
Took the opie image and renamed it "initrd.bin" as pepr the instructions.

Got both files from www.openzaurus.org ... That seems like a reliable source.

Those were the only two files on a known good 256MB SanDisk CF card.

Held down "C" and "D" and pressed Full Reset.

Both the mail and power lights were on for a few minutes, then they turned off...

Removed the Flash card, Hit Full Reset again, and closed the battery door.

My SL-5500 now says "Sharp" in red letters and has a blinking cursor in the lower right corner of the screen... No booting. Sits like that for maybe 15 minutes and then shuts down.

What'd I do wrong?

I upgraded to Sharp Rom 3.13 and the card actually got recognized... Before, I had 2.38

Anywhozer, I click Network and current info... I put my MAC address in my Linksys access point to allow this to connect.

I put in my WEP and SSID info in the Zaurus.

I click the little globe with red X on it at the bottom and hit connect. It says Initializing, and the light blinks... Network Settings says 87% signal.

But it eventually quits trying.

What can I do?

I forget what my old ROM version was... 1.something or 2.something... Regardless, The Sync Program for Mac OS-X wouldn't recognize it, and it wouldn't work with my Symbol WiFi card...

So I flashed the ROM... My only downfall was not being able to verify that my card was FAT16 formatted... I assume it was since the flash was successful.

I booted it, it freaked out saying bad superblock something something... Realized I had forgotten a hard reset... Hit the hard reset switch and booted it. Put in my owner info and everything...

Hancomm Word, Spreadsheet, and all that jazz is missing, along with several games... All I have is Patience...

Is this normal?

EDIT: SL-5500 model

So yeah... I broke the digitizer on my Z while removing the G2 screen protector that I installed improperly.

Funny thing, UPS beat the crap outta my new one's box and it has the same problem. Next time I'm going with FedEx... After UPS replaces this one.

When I get my new SL-5500, should I try installing the remaining G2 or should I go with a different type of protector...

I either need to buy or sell a SL-5500 for parts...

I had put it away so that I wouldn't use it till I got a screen protector. As soon as I got screen protectors, I installed one, but got dissatisfied with my work, as I trapped a bit of dust under it and creased it in the process... So I decided to remove it and start with another one...

Big mistake... Shattered my touch screen digitizer layer...

LCD still works... Everything still goes, just can't use the stylus...

Is that layer replacable? Is there a source for replacements? Anyone have a bricked SL-5500 with a good digitizer that they'll sell me?

Looks like I'm gonna be buying a new Z soon... Maybe I should try installing the screen protectors a bit more carefully.
