Just letting everyone know that I ordered a brand new camera card from comp-u-plus for $19.95 last week and it got here yesterday. Works great and it is in fact brand new in the box. For those that were curious about it, it works decent. I wouldn't spend the suggested $150-$200 for it, but for $19.95, who can go wrong. For anyone that had wanted one, I noticed today that the price had actually dropped to $14.95. Here's the link:

http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?s...86r6&id=1000535

BTW - No, I do not work for comp-u-plus and I do not get any benefits from posting this. The price was just too awesome not to share with others.
jpjackson67
That is fantastic value - trouble is Shipping costs to the UK start at $50! Which makes it a little less attractive !
mwbarker
Sure, but with normal prices being around $140, $50 for shipping is still saving you a ton of $$$.

If the above link doesn't work, just go to www.pricegrabber.com and search for CE-AG06. You'll see what I mean by the prices.

You're not wrong there - some very sill prices around for the camera card - even seen one at $219.

So..... $66 (ish) including shipping is still a real bargain.

Thanks for the tip off.
bMindful
if it ships i owe ya one mw. $29.90us incl shipping (US) killer!
meangene
Thanks, mw. It looks like a real deal.
V-Man
I just ordered one last night biggrin.gif . Including shipping is was $29.90 also. I heard that the quality of this camera was not great, but from the sample pics I saw on the web, it is more than usable. I appreciate your finding this great deal. At such a low price, I couldn't pass it up. I sure wasn't going to spend over $200 on it, but <$30 including shipping is a great deal 8) .

Thanks Again

damn... that is a good deal! I just ordered mine... I was tempted to pick up a few of them... maybe I'll get some as give-aways...
n8a
Picked one up, too. Thanks! Now I'm glad that I didn't get one for half off during the whole Office Depot sell-out phase!
mwbarker
Glad I could help out. I admit that the camera is not that great to use as a primary digital camera, but as an add-on gadget for my Z it works out fine. For over $150 I never would have bought it, but with the price from comp-u-plus I just couldn't resist.
Anonymous
they also sell them on ebay...just do a zaurus search

Hello

I would like to purchase a few of these babies but i am in Canada, would some reputable ZUG guy accept couple of bux for recievign and reshipping tem to Canada using USPS economy gound ?

Thanks
tapjpa
Just ordered one myself as well, can't beat the price!

I just went back to compuplus to order 10 of them... to then send them off to those intl. people, but it seems they have odd shipping terms...

shipping on 10 cameras is $98.65 (two-day). why couldn't they just shove them all into one box, and ship that out? it seems that they are trying to make some money on shipping. I think I'll call them tomorrow to see if they can change that.

I suppose if they don't change the shipping charge for a bulk order, I could still pick them up and just have those who want one pay $25 for it, and whatever shipping costs it is to their respective location.

maybe I'm just asking for trouble...
raybert
I was a little irked that they wanted $15 to ship a $15 item. I don't need 2nd day shipping; why should I have to pay for it?! So I called them and asked about this. The operator told me they were "contracted" to ship that way and he couldn't anything about it. (I guess their shipping is outsourced?) I asked for basic ground shipping but they wouldn't do it. I complained more and he offered to take $2 off the shipping charge; said that was the best he could do. I declined his offer and said I had to think about whether I still wanted to buy the item. Later I decided $30 was still a pretty excellent deal so I went back to the site and ordered one.

One other thing he told me: he said most people buy multiple items per visit and that the shipping costs then averaged out. Cheap way to get me to buy more stuff...

I think their attitude/policy is pretty poor. They should at least have a basic ground shipping option for cases like this. When I placed my order I complained one more time in the comment field on the order form. wink.gif

does anyone know if this camera will work on the 5600?
tapjpa
Yes it will, just pull the ipk from here http://www.sharpusa.com/files/hpc_soft_qpe-camera.exe
offroadgeek
Just got off the phone with compuplus... they won't budge on the shipping terms. And since I can't see spending an extra $100 on shipping for 10 small cameras... I've decided to just not buy any extras. So if you've PMd me about shipping one to you, sorry - can't do it.
tapjpa
Just noticed that they raised the price to 28.95, think they noticed a run on them wink.gif
cavit8
Just out of curiosity, how do these cameras perform? I noticed someone said they're okay but not amazing. What does that mean exactly? What are the weak points/strong points etc. etc. These things are $50 for me to ship, added with exchange etc. that makes them far less of a deal for me.

Cheers

I ordered one but don't have it yet. I wouldn't expect much from it; it's not a serious camera, IMO.

The resolution is low: 640 x 480, IIRC.

I figure the thing will be useful for quick snapshots of stuff if I'm out comparison shopping or something. If I want to take real photos I'll break out my Nikon digicam.

If I'm surprised when I receive mine I'll post something about it.

FYI: Here's a link to the manual for the camera: http://www.zaurus.com/dev/support/download...-AG06Manual.pdf

Real nice. Obviously a highly ethical organization that truly values its customers.

combine that with the ridiculous shipping charges and hey! they suck!
NotesSync
The camera is pretty good for daylight shots. I use mine for yard projects so at the store I can remember everything i need.

Their shipping is high, I had added some linksys stuff and nearly died when i saw $48 shipping for $65 order. I dropped everything but the camera. After checkin I did find that with the shipping they still beat everyone eles price on the linksys.
The order I placed sunday was delivered today.

How about the SL-C860? Can the camera be used with that model?

Best regards.

Well, just got my camera card. It's a pretty neat little card but, as expected, the picture quality isn't great. The Sharp SW is pretty decent too. You get a live preview on the GUI that updates pretty fast and cleanly. You can choose from 480x320 or 240x160 resolution in landscape mode or 480x640 or 240x320 in portrait mode. The lens rotates 180 degrees forward (towards the subject) or backwards (towards you) and you can flip the preview display to match. The lens uses manual focus (turn the lens ring). There's a shutter button on the card itself as well as one on the GUI. You can set the compression quality between "normal" and "fine". You can save either to internal memory or SD. There's also a SW zoom function (2x, I think) that only works at the lower resolutions and a full screen preview that only works in portrait mode. Other than the limited quality, the only other problem (albeit, a minor one) is that the card blocks the stylus garage. All in all a pretty cool toy, especially at the minimal price paid.

Just got my camera as well, for what I paid and considuring what it is I am actually impressed.
I took a few pics with it and will post them later when I get home from work.

I just bought mine yesterday for the new $28 price (still a great deal) with the $15 shipping (a horrible deal). I'm hoping to get it either monday or tuesday.

I've read that it is very hard to focus and has trouble with low light, but for $42 I don't really care if its up to snuff with a dedicated digital camera.
Anonymous
Ordered mine on Friday. It was shipped on Monday and I received it on Wednesday. It is poor quality (worse than the Zire 71 cam for example) but perfectly fine for quick outdoor shots in good light. For the price, I am happy with it! I am using it on a SL-C860. Total paid, about $30 incl. shipping.
Mickeyl
Note that Opie-Camera http://www.Vanille.de/projects/camera.html also can take videos and supports more formats/resolutions. I never tested this on a C7x0 though.

I don't find it hard to focus (assuming that you have enough light) but then again I'm used to manual focus cameras.

It IS virtually blind in low light.

Looking at the update rate of the preview screen last night I was thinking that it might be technically possible to capture movies with it. Of course, the Sharp software doesn't do this. It might be worth playing around with Opie-Camera though.

I got mine off of ebay.

I found that my camera phone (LG VX6000) camera takes better pictures than the Zaurus camera :?

I've been using it on my C700 w/ opie-camera (got it from mickey) it works great.. but wont write to my ext2 formatted SD card
V-Man
Mine arrived on Thursday tongue.gif ! I have only had a short time to play with. It is virtually blind for low light (even indoors in my house, which is kinda dark to begin with). It is easy to focus in normal or bright light. For the price, I am very satisfied. This will never take the place of a "real" digital camera, but is more than sufficient for the purposes I wanted it for.

Just a heads-up. SL-5600 users probably want to use the camera software package that came on the CD-ROM. The version on the CD-ROM is -3 while -1 can be downloaded. The only real difference (from what I can tell) is that photos can be saved in flash memory with -3, while the -1 only let me save to my SD-card...not internal flash. Photo quality is still crap indoors
Felicity_Palmer
offroadgeek, did you end up ordering 10 of those cameras? I would be interested in purchasing one from you. I''m in the USA so I can pay ground mail. Also I'm wondering if anyone knows or can guess whether it would be compatible with the 5600
Felicity_Palmer
just saw meangene's post so I guess 5600 use seems plausible.
Anonymous
Felicity_Plamer: He didn't buy them because they charge $15 for shipping for each one you buy.
Anonymous
offroadgeek, This is Coolass, I was wondering if you still had any cameras left and what are you selling them for ? 8)

They raised the value to $50!!!

Do they ship worldwide?

It is $25 right now, and I'd like to buy it, but I'm afraid they don't ship it to Europe or that the S&H is too expensive, would anyone send it to me? wink.gif

Bye! smile.gif
V-Man
bluey, E-mail me and we can try to work out details if you are interested. I am located in Oklahoma USA. I have a sister in Norway if you are close, that way I could include it in one of her "care" packages.

I sent you a PM.

Had a quick play with this on the C750. Works fine except for one minor detail. Does not save anything. Tried selecting a couple of locations, but no luck.

Any ideas ?
david.furniss
Are drivers/software needed to make it work on an 860? Where can you get the software?
Zuber
I'm using the OZ software but installing on Sharp ROM. Managed to get it to save images, but not video. Still shakey though.

The standard software works fine (see downloads section)

I'm looking to purchase this and would really like to see some sample pics. Could some kind person please post a pic or two taken with this camera (maybe one indoors and one outdoors)? Thanks.

You don't want to take indoors pictures with this camera. They realy suck. Outdoors pictures' quality is somewhat of those built into cellphones...
Zuber
Guess it depends on what cellphone you have smile.gif

They are in a different league to the one I get on my T610.

The price is back down to $15 plus $15 for shipping.
