Hi,

I searched the forum (and the web) and couldn't find an answer to the question whether the Picsel Browser for Zaurus can be installed in english language. I also would be very happy if someone could post some screenshots of the application in action and tell us his experience.

In detail I would like to know:

* Does the Picsel Browser feature a search function for Word- & PDF-documents?
* Are all Powerpoint features supported? If not: Which are?
* How is web-browsing compared to Netfront?
* Are webpages with Flash animations rendered correctly?
* Can documents be edited in any way?
* Are there any supplieres different from the Japanese Online Shop?

Apparently it is a unique and powerful application nobody does no nothing about. I would like to change this with the help of you.

Kind regards,
DRDR.

My Clie Tj35 has a Picsel powered browser built in. It is a viewer for various file formats, not a web browser.

It seems to understand a fair variety of file formats, and seems to run pretty quickly. I could view a 40mb PDF file, and some example XLS and DOC files on the 32mb,200mhz Clie without too many issues. The interface is a little strange, but easy enough to figure out.

I'm planning to look a little harder at Picsel when I acutally get ahold of my 3000 later tonight.

Heh. I was under the impression that the Picsel browser shipped with the 3000, but I don't see any mention of it on the Z or in the manual. Oops.

As far as I know PicselBrowser was distributed only on some Panasonic SD cards and it will not run without this card.

Ok, let me summarize what I already know about the Picsel Browser for Zaurus:

* It's for the Zaurus clamshell models.
* It is a viewer for graphics, photos, MS Office documents, PDF and video.
* It has a built in web-browser with support for Macromedia Flash and lots of other stuff (but probably without support for Java Applets).
* It comes on a 254 MB SD-card and it is hardware dongled to this card. It only occupies around 30 MB or so on this card.
* It is from a company called Picsel Technologies: http://www.picsel.com
* It costs a lot: Around 100 Euro or so.
* It is currently sold out. Next shipping in April.
* There is an update available which comes - once uncompressed - in Japanese and English. So it's probably possible to use the Picsel Browser with an English user interface. When you start the update an introduction document is shown. While this is oberlayed by the error message box telling you that Picsel Browser could not find its SD-card, you can imagine that the graphics rendering engine of the Picsel Browser seems to be pretty good. Light years ahead of qpdf e.g. (at least the qpdf I am using).

What is getting on my nerves:

* There are absoluty no screenshots around.
* www.picsel.com doesn't provide a product demonstration.
* The Sharp Life Plaza website is only in Japanese and does not give any details about the language settings possible in the Picsel Browser.

So please, if someone - maybe from Japan ;-) - is using the Picsel Browser, could they just take some pictures of it and post it? It's a pity that such an apparently powerful application which would solve a lot of problems you experience in daily Zaurus use is so unknown und hard to evaluate. I would also be interested to know if you can search documents. That would be really nice...

I thought the card was shipped with the Z rolleyes.gif I spent a couple of minutes going through the box I got with the 3000 going "So where's my Picsel SD Card". I didn't realize that there was storage on the SD card - I thought it was only a security "dongle".

As for searching, my Clie's Picsel doesn't seem to be able to search. A Macromedia flash-capable browser would be *very* nice to have.

I'd be very happy to purchase it if a .ipk en english was available somewhere. I use a 1 Gb SD, so a 256 Mb card is a big no no.

Hopefully a crack will make possible to use picsel as it should be (like a normal application). Until it has been cracked; I won't be buying it.

100 Eur is a lot, but for a good pdf reader I'd be ready to pay that

Picsel is basically the epitome of proprietary running on the most open PDA available. It works in Japan.

I finally managed to buy one and wrote a little review:
