Is it possible to alter the keymap on the Sharp ROM? I ask because I've just installed microemacs (having been totally unable to get full GNU Emacs built for the Z ) and I can't work out how where the Alt/Meta key is.

Or am I on a hiding to nothing and it would be better to install OZ?

You need keyhelper.

the easiest way is to restore our latest backup.
Then your Zaurus is set to our delivery state
including KeyHelper, the Ko/Pi etc. apps and
a lot more stuff.
Also it then matches fully our manual

- I downloaded the ipk from the indicated link, but it won't install. When I install it, and close the app installer, it drops to the command line instantly, like Qtopia crashes or something, and then it reboots right away. No applet or anything to indicate it's working.
- Has anyone else seen this? Or know what to do about it? (grin) So far I'm just not remapping my keys, but I'd kinda like to change that default scenario.

- It looks like there's a file that can be edited with vi to change the key assignments, and I surmise this applet is doing just that. But I don't know what all the key codes mean in there. A table of key codes would do me just as well as any applet ... I don't really intend to change the key mapping once I get it where I want it. I primarily want to do something with the "kanji" keys (between ctrl and space), which currently do nothing what-so-ever, like put forward slash on a non-shifted key. I'd also like to tweak some function mappings that generate japanese characters, even after "conversion", that essentially do nothing for this Kanji Challenged user. (snicker)
- I *could* just change stuff and see what happens. (shrug) It seems just as easy, and more likely to generates useful results, to learn what to do first! (cheshire grin)

i have the same problem with my c3100... after i install keyhelper and exit the add & remove programm qtopia crashes and reboots... need help pls.

when you add a new ipnut method or taskbar applet, qtopia often reboots after the install app finishes, this is normal - not right but normal.

To see if keyhelper is running or not (there is not icon on the taskbar) run from the terminal, you should see something like "KeyHelper 1.2.2" printed in the task bar next to the "Q" for a second or 2.

If that is so then edit keyhelper.xml in /home/zaurus/Settings and use "khctl reload" again to relaod your changes.

If you want a better solution that does not requires keyhelper, edit the .tbl files from /opt/Qtopia/etc/

It's hard complicated and undocumented; but that's what I'm doing on the 6000 for the Guylhem distro. I am still missing "Record" and "Light" keycodes, but besides that it allows you to do whatever you want with the keyboard.

- Nice. I don't suppose you have essentially created documentation, however brief? That fact that you are "...missing "Record" and "Light" keycodes implies you have the rest of them. (cheshire grin) That so?
- Anything would be nice. I've been completely unable to find any hard data regarding the keyboard ... scan codes, what the cryptic "labels" mean, anything at all.
- For instance, in my keycode.tbl file is "0x105 Key_Equal <blah, blah>". The "1xx" implies an Fn key, but it's pretty obvious by experimentation that the CTRL key performs the same function as "Shift-FN", but the Shift and Ctrl codes don't have the same value on them. And why does an Fn key even have a Ctrl value when that's implied by the Ctrl button?
- I'd be happy to have any hard data at all, rather than shooting in the dark, or completely re-inventing the scancode wheel that others have certainly done.

ooo...cool, i can just edit that and skip keyhelper.....maybe
