If I try to launch mc from the rxvt terminal I get the error "Unknown terminal: kterm....". From the xterm it's no problem to start mc.

Any idea?

try export TERM=rxvt before launching mc

Thanks, this helps. But how can I make this permanent. I added this line in the .xinitrc file but this doesnt work.

I don't know where TERM=kterm is set so i don't know exactly what you should modify (~/.profile ~/.bashrc /etc/profile...?)
