Ok. Here are the ones that I am working on:
AdvanceMame (MaxMame) - Completed.
DOSBox (MaxBox) - Needs ipkg.
Kegs - Completed, needs some key remapping for control panel.
Here is what has been requested:
SNES9x-SDL
MESS (MaxMESS) <--Should be simple to move over.
Anything else? Games? PIMs? Apps? Let's get a list going. I know that Cacko x11 needs some more apps.
I am pretty sure I can say "pretty please" to Pentad to help port these over also. ;-)

Bliss!
http://bliss.retrogames.com/
It is an intellivision emulator that runs with SDL.
The Bliss Java applet works but is terribly slow (tried it around one year ago).
But having it compiled for the Z.
BTW-OT: would also be nice having it for qt to use on the SL5500.
Thanks for the effort anyway!

zRoadmap - There is a Opie X11 package for the arm already
but it will NOT install right,
maybe this only needs to be repackaged?
QPSword
A CAD program of some sort that reads DXF files.
City Time
PIM apps (I know they have been promised but this stops me from
converting to X11 at the present time - address book and
calendar)
Chess
Thanks for asking

I am placing them into beta phase and either uploading them to zaurus.spy.org (for public beta) or emailing them (more "iffy" betas). Depends on the status.
UPDATE: SNES9x-SDL is ready for testing. Testers wanted.

how does one use advmame?
it just tells me that it can't initialize the fb ...
do you have an example command line? or dot file setup?
how do I tell it to use X?

Thnks LordDavon for working on Bliss!
I did not think it could be a problem tough!
Do you think your port, when completed, could also work on X11 for the SL5500?
Or that it would be very difficult to make a QT port?

How about angband? (Or a variant like zangband ...)
LordDavon
Feb 1 2004, 07:02 AM
About advmame:
This is for the x11 ROM. You just run it as ./advmame <rom name without the .zip>. You also need to have SDL installed. It is compiled for both the FB (so we can run it outside of X when that is fixed) and SDL. If SDL is not installed, it will disable the SDL and use the FB.
As for the setup file, it will create it in ~/.advance

I am concentrating on the X11 ROM. I have only been working on the Cacko X11 so I am not sure of the compatability of the other roms. If the libraries are the same, I don't see a problem.
As for QT, I can move it over to that once I get everything compiled for X11. My development is setup for Cacko right now, but my old SDL/Qtopia environment is all tarred up and ready to go still.

Would be really great!
I am sure I can wait for you to complete your work on the X11!
THe old intellivision games were really enjoyable and would be perfect on the Z (not to big HW requests, lots of games, no need to turn the screen, Keyboard available to simulate the extra Intv...)
Wow!

ok, the mame was not the x mame.. problem fixed.
now the issue is that -misc_speed = flat
doesn't stay working:
---- 7.11.2 misc_speed ----
Selects the speed factor always active. You can play the game
in slowdown or in nightmare mode!
misc_speed FACTOR
Options:
FACTOR - Float speed factor (default 1.0).
Examples:
misc_speed 1.2
try it... play ms pacman... runs nice.. when you die -- see the speed goes back to normal?
(or 15 to 30 seconds in... the game slows down)
advmame mspacman -misc_speed 4.0
you'll see it's fast... and watch it slow down.
(start a game fast to see the slowdown while playing).
am I doing it wrong? the docs say the value lasts forever, but it doesn't.
if I set the turbo speed, that works.. but I have to hold down a key!
why can't the misc-speed just last forever, as it says?!
has anyone actually tried this -- or am I just talking to myself?
am I doing it wrong? just tell me.
Scott

Scott,
Thank you for the update. Remember that this is beta software so there may be issues. I will look into the code and see if there is something in there that I can find. Can you run top in the background and look for a memory leak?
LD
ScottYelich
Feb 1 2004, 01:42 PM
the update was for the advmame not being "x" aware.
you uploaded the new version.
The speed thing is still an issue.
The "-misc_speed" value seems to get reset... or not even used.
Try it with mspacman... it will get reset after a short while.
If you set it with galaga -- it has not effect -- although turbo does!
It's as if some default value of 1 is hard coded somewhere...
also, it seems like something is fighting something else --
if I press turbo in galaga, I get a speed up, but then it drops back
to normal! even while holding the turbo. It's almost like there's an
"auto" setting that's enabled for "speed" -- only, for me, it slows
it to 25% instead of 100%. argh.
I've tried setting misc_speed in the config file and on the command line
and the speed *still* gets reset! is the "startuptime" value
resetting the speedup, and then not allowing the speedup
to remain?
anyway, I'll play more for the next few days and give you feedback then.
:-)
Scott
ps: the snes seems FAST.

For a calendar application, Korganizer/KoPi would be great. I switched to it
from Sharp calendar a few weeks ago and I'm not going back.
On the other hand, Evolution is still my desktop calendar, but it might be too big
both physically and screen estate wise.

I am looking into KoPi and Qualendar. The only problem is that they are dependent on Qt libs that do not currently exist for the x11 ROM so I am not trying to compile all of the libs for the ROM. As well, I did find some nice PIMs that require Python and Pyqt, so I have compiled Python for the ROM (yet I think Sash already have Python compiled) and will start testing those once I get back from visiting with my family this weekend.

Hello all,
I'm a new Zaurus 5500, 750 and 860 user. I think that these gadgets are great. I'm currntly running Cacko X11 rom on my 750 and 860. At first glance of the X11 roms it SEEMED to me that there was a lack of pim apps available for it. I'm definitely interested in contributing some development time for porting and producing applications under the X11 roms on the Zaurus.
I'm currently working on porting KOrganizer. I got it to work on my Zaurus C750 running running pdaXrom (have not tested it on the 860 yet, but assume it would work

). There are some icons missing in the calendar dialog box, but other than that, its working well. It took me some time to get a development environment going -- but all is well now. I now need to figure out how to package this thing and make a .pkg out of it. I still have a lot to learn but on the right track -- I think. Let me know if anyone of you are interested in testing this.

i did setup my linux box last weekend and tried to port qualendar but the dev-env is still not fully setup. also i still
need to get my wlan-usb-stick to work:(
also, i'd like to see a web-browser which IS working. konq is just to slow on my c700 (needs about 2minutes to
display google.com), mozilla is to big.... maybe dillo ?

X11 ports that would make the C750 a killer machine?
For me it would be:
Ethereal + Libpcap
Minicom + Libncurses (or another serial-capable terminal client)
Konsole (or similar with scroll up/dn buffer)
a TFTP server of some kind
Well that's enough to be getting on with. If I can get a Dev environment sorted, I may have a go at these myself.

The development environment for cross compilation is pretty good and not too hard to use. The older zgcc image for running on the machine works fine too. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new development environment is too.
