I'm going to be ordering a bluetooth module from segor (on the excellent advice of Guylhem) which will be soldered in.

Before I start, I just want to confirm that dismantling a 6000 isn't a traumatic experience... I've not see much in the way of photos showing the thorough stripping-down on one, so I'm hoping someone can reassure me that I'm not insane to consider it!

maybe that's because we are lazy ... but that'd be a great add on if you could document your process to other users. take a lot of pics and post them. if you need a place to host them, i will be quite happy to do that on externe.net

G, how long did it take to dismantle yours to create a 6000W?

It's not too difficult to take apart, about 6-8 screws. I have various pics of it taken apart on my web site, but not a step by step.

well I purchased a sl6000w in the first place after having enjoyed a sl6000l. dismantling takes me 30 minutes because I try to do that cleanly and nicely :-)

honnestly, now that I know how easy adding bluetooth is, I wouldn't get a 6000w again. the only thing you'll miss with a bluetoothised 6000l is the blue led.

Can it be added? I didn't look at your pictures too closely yet.

Your website's a classic! I thought I was bad for taking things apart! When I was young, I dismantled my father's expensive hifi cassette desk, and something went boing and it took me a day to put it back together again; luckily I am older and wiser, and have enough willpower to hold off taking my Z's apart (well, at least until there's a mod/enhancement I can achieve).

I've started uploading the pictures to my website; pictures were taken with my (now antique) Olympus C3040Z, and my wife's Ixus 750. I've realised that it's surprisingly difficult to photograph electronics clearly enough to read the part numbers, because there's never a perfect angle when none of the polished surfaces aren't reflecting back... at least with a digicam you can preview and retake over and over!

Hey, just to let you know, be careful putting it back together. The screws under the battery strip easy.

no need to worry, I did put it back together again perfectly... AFTER I broke a ram chip when I was refitting the wifi module (see my hardware mods thread about fiting wml-c09 bluetooth module).

Well that sucks. I thought this was a new one. Hey, just in case you haven't replaced it yet. I got a 3100 off e-bay. I actually like this one better. Even without the built in wifi. The keyboard is soooo much better! The drive partitioning is a little hokey, but you get used to it.

what? take yet another 6000 apart and break it? All the photos were of a working 6000 - even now, physically mine is identical to a working one, except for a hairline crack across a SDRAM chip where I accidentally squeezed the board putting the wifi module on.

Yeah, I'd like to buy a new clamshell - at the moment money's too tight for that - I sold my 860, as I had to decide between the 6000 and the 860, and I figured that clamshells are more easily replaced... one day, maybe, I will get a 3100/3200 or HTC uni depending. Of course, you can always use the Amazon or Google links when you're online and help me at least pay for the hosting!
