I am trying to use Midnight Commander in the GPE console.

MC requires the control key to use its menus. How can I access the control key in the GPE console?

Under OPIE one of the two japanase keys ( I forgot which one, and my Z is not at hand) works as Control ( same as in the Sharp rom). In GPE this does not work.

Any ideas?

Thank you...

Ummm, unless I'm very mistaken, all SL-Cxx00 models have a dedicated "Ctrl" key to the left of the two japanese keys.

You are right - and it does not work work to bring up the menus in MC.

Actually: maybe my initial post was misleading: maybe I need a function key?

Either way: can anyone please tell me, how to activate the menus in MC under GPE?

Use the "Esc" + Num key to access the menus, i.e. esc+4: edit, esc+5: copy, esc+0: exit

For some reasons mc appears in black and white in the root console.
Other users have colors! What am I missing?

EDIT:

problems comes only by doing "su -root"

RE-EDIT

possibly an urxvt bug...

You can also change the value in /etc/profile
CODE
TERM="vt100"

to
CODE
TERM="linux"

That will also give you color in kismet when you run it as root

thanks for the hint! I'm used to the Gentoo filesystem and pseudo-debian is somewhere different...

Have anyway a lot of "can't get colour ''#XXXXXX", continuing without." in the session logs...
