Well, the first software that booted was built with OE, so I'd think it's pretty hackable

Get a prototype and a soldering iron, and find out!

I'm on the list for getting one for $300 and they donate the other 2 somewhere else. Don't know if it will go through though. I don't think we'll get enough pledges.

The last video I saw of it running it was running a stripped down Fedora Core 5 install.

We are waiting for rev B devboards to come available to test on, and are discussing if we want to support it in Ångström, since the OLPC is a touchy political subject.

As is said before: OE support isn't the problem, the political side is. You could even use OE to build the linuxbios used, so software hackability isn't the problem.

what are the political issues exactly? you mention them however i dont see a problem with running your own firmware on a device you have purchased
