From my own experience the quote is inaccurate. I have and use both the older version of WRT54G and the WRT54GS version. The second version can/has been flashed with the ddt-wrt system. If you look at their site you will find up to date information on all Linksys routers which can/have been flashed and a load of other devices which can also be flashed.
Other versions of these open firmware systems are also capable of being flashed onto numerous devices. "Google is your Friend!"

Right but, the newer versions only have 2Mb of flash. You'll get dd-wrt on there, but not much else. I don't think there's even enough room left to make them into kismet-drones.
