Just wondering how many people here are using the ubuntu 6.10 edgy eft. Anyway, it's starting to become my main pc since i have a dedicated second pc. I have 5 pc's but I wanted this one for this particular one with a 6800 graphics card. ubuntu is using baryl as a window manager as well.

what i want to do is plug my zaurus into ubuntu, i get like 5 windows that pop up with the same directory. any way to fix this? another issue us ejecting it. do I just eject it? I did it once but warns me of unsafely ejecting.

I'll wait for a decent backport of beryl. The whole "long - term" stability thing and its possible potential (another release name?) for marellously manageable upgrades is really appealing to me...especially after a little over a year of SID on my main desktop. I use Debian-Stable on servers pretty much as a piece of dogma--I WON"T use anything else unless forced. I find that i really enjoy stuff that works.
Also, since I really don't like being forced to upgrade from equipment that works fine, I only use linux at home.
IIRC, my z connects to my dapper boxes pretty much hassle free--though I admit I don't do it much, and usually just scp stuff back and forth, or use flash cards.

I have Edgy on 4 boxes here at the homestead. I wouldn't use anything else. I have not plugged my z in lately, but the last time I did I got the multiple boxes from Amarok as well. I think you can turn that off in Amarok. To remove it, you can right click on the icon and then left click eject. Better than just unplugging it. Make sure that all the windows displaying z contents are closed.

I use Ubuntu (using it right now) and had the same issue (with pdaXrom). I never did anything with it because I had no clue which place to copy stuff and haven't tried it recently due to moving to the 2.6 kernel on pdaX.

When I tried connecting my C860 to my Linux box, I got the same problem with 5 windows popping up for the CF card ... and 5 more for the SD. That was first configuring the Z to run as USB storage, of course ... it would not be recognised in the other mode.

Since I run XandrOS Desktop Premium, it may just be a Debian issue rather than an Ubuntu issue. (XandrOS is also Debian-based.)

These days I usually just wifi it at home anyway.

I went and checked on a dapper box. same thing... bunch o windows, etc. yuck. Fortunately I keep flash readers attached to my computers, mostly.

I use Edgy @ home too (I started with Hoary). I moved to Ubuntu after using Gentoo for 2 years. I learned a lot with Gentoo, but mostly spent time fixing things after doing upgrades. Ubuntu, just works out of the box, so i spend less time tweaking. Using Beryl & Aiglx, very stable so far.

Same issue with the multiple boxes on pdaXrom, not sure about Angstrom GPE, I haven't connected reciently, I too use flash card reader or scp via wifi

at previous job, company standard was Redhat, and we moved to FreeBSD on dual or quad opteron boxes (for a while I got into the top 80 on the RC5 cracking contest when testing them). Then the chief sysadmin decided he didn't like freebsd, and I think they went back to redhat!

I found edgy to be stable, but nothing special. I usually run SuSE on desktop but I decided to see what was so special about ubuntu, and I tried k-ubuntu 6.1 final release candidate but the wireless networking was rubbish and went back to SuSE. Despite knowing debian fairly well, I found that suse allowed me to be more lazy as there's more gui stuff to control things especially bluetooth and printing.

Funny, I found Ubuntu to be the only one (out of Mandriva, SuSE, Knoppix, DSL, RedHat, and Fedora) to support my wireless out of the box.

the only issue I had with SuSE10.1 is they cocked up the kernel module for ipw2200/2950 and it didn't have monitor mode, quick patch of kernel makefile and voila!

Some of my issues may have been due to me knowing nothing about Linux at that point in time.
