Full Version: Problem With R189, Boot Failure
OESF Forums > Distros, Development, and Model Specific Forums > Distro Support and Discussion > pdaXrom
stoneworks
I followed instructions found in http://mail.pdaxrom.org, and succeeded building pdaXrom R189.
But I have troubles running it with my C1000.

The only differences I made for my own R189 ROM was removing all the games with 'make menuconfig'.

And I've done ROM installation just like the way the documents describes.
(I've successfully installed and ran R121 before.)

Error log followes. (Thanks god, it was short enough for hand-typing..)
(Everything before this log looked normal to me.)

The svn has moved and all changes are being made there...

It will be on there soon

Well the SVN has been public... the documentation is at pdaxrom.org..

It is just that we moved it over to a new location about 2 weeks and the documentation hasnt been updated...

Has the svn been fixed? I still got r189 when I check-out from svn. How can I get r196?

Also, how about the corgi rom of r196? Is it on the same level of usability as akita?

It works. Thanks for the information.

Another issue: When I ran the build script I got an error saying that tk8.4.14-src.tar.gz can't be downloaded. I'm using http://mail.pdaxrom.org/src to get the source codes, as described in the documentation. Do I need to use othe source url or should I download the source codes by myself?

missing usbdconf-1.1.3.tar.bz2 on both URLs
I'm proceeding with usbdconf.make modified. (1.1.1)

Fixed, if you use 1.1.1 the usbconfig will not work...

Thanks! I finally successfully built it. There was still a problem, though:
The sysfsutils-2.1.0.tar.gz failed to download from the source directory. The target folder was /home/root/my-akita-roms/src/index.html, which seemed to be wrong. I manually downloaded it and the build process succeeded.

BTW, if I want to rebuild it when the svn is updated, what command should I use? I tried "make clean" in the middle of the build process when I wanted to use the new configuration, but there was some error. (I didn't take a note of that.)

that's great!
would you mind writing a short guide on building the latest version in svn?

I just followed the guide here:

http://www.pdaxrom.org/?q=node/101

You only need to replace the svn server and source server with the values that InSearchOf mentioned in this thread:

svn checkout https://pdaxrom.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/pdaxrom/trunk

and

./configure akita-kernel-2.6-xtools ~/my-akita-rom http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri...ons/pdaxrom/src

Also you will need about 10GB free harddrive space for building the ROM.

Hmm, the ibiblio source archive seems to be missing today, I keep getting a 404 error. When I browse to http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/ I only see debian, slackware, suse, winlinux and fedora.

Yes, it's gone! Can anyone fix this?

BTW, the SVN is updated to 198 now. I'm glad to see it's being actively developed!

InSearchOf posted earlier that the host has had hardware problems.

While I wait for the hardware to be replaced, I'm curious if you did your build using the pdaXrom-builder Live cd or on your own linux box?

I tried building an earlier version but it didn't like having gcc-4.1 on the host. I know sashz at one time had a vm version, so I was hoping either for a build system that uses a more current complier or a vm version so I don't have to boot out of my normal linux install to build the pdaXrom image.

Cheers,

Interesting, I've got the pdaXrom iso running as a virtual machine with VirtualBox. Easy install works pretty well so far. Check it out http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

That's right! I'm using the pdaX86 LiveCD on VMWare Workstation. The only problem is X doesn't startup. But you don't need X to build the rom.

I don't really use the vmware...

Just use chroot and do some minor tweak..

You need to extract the base files from the ISO file to chroot.

Yes, a more elegant solution than running vmware. I'll have to try that. I usually solve problems with the most complicated solution I can wink.gif

However, it is nice to find a GPL vm solution. I'm going to create a WinBlow$ vm with it. I may be able to finally lose the WinBlow$ partition on my PC. I rarely use it now as it is.

Cheers,

Compiling under vm environment will be very slow.
It is possible to compile some application that require native arm environment using qemu-arm but i haven't tried it yet.
