Could someone tell me where I can get the (or any) sync software for my Zaurus C3100? Also, anyone know if it works in vista?

Take a look at Trisoft's web site. The download section has the English software. There is also an essential howto and their manuals are downloadable also.

In passing there was a download on ZUG, but of course the downloads have been missing since before Christmas.

I believe you can still find the downloads for the 5500 3.10 upgrade on Sharp's site and you could , I think, pay for the FIGLABS conversion which comes with a cd and an installable zip file for Windows synchronisation.

As regards Vista, you have just egged me on to try to set up my vista laptop with the zaurus. I'll report back. But all windows syncs with the installed pim software seems very flaky! I blame windows. (Just updating all my boxes to Feisty Fawn so I'll be too busy to do this very soon.)

Practically speaking , I think it is more sensible to use kdepimpi on both your zaurus and your pc. You might prefer to use the version for the usb stick. It works happily on windows and most modern linux distros.

A regards backing up the zaurus, use the nand backup facility or the ordinary backup to a card.

Well, scratch the Vista idea. I removed it yesterday and went back to XP. Vista has too many problems it's not worth it. It refuses to communicate with samba shares which includes my NAS and linux boxes and most of the old games (Riven, even gametap) were unplayable on it. Oh and after only two months of using it it's startup time had doubled.

I was actually fiddling around with syncing the kdepim aps on my ubuntu and I will probably do that. But I don't fully trust it because when I deleted all addresses on the PC it didn't remove them from the zaurus when I synced.

What is this usb stick version you are talking about? It sounds interesting.



Yeah I better do a NAND backup now that my zaurus is set up perfectly. I may not be able to get it like this again in the future as this community is dwindling along with available software.

You can put the stuff on any memory card and run it from there with a linux or windows box. You can even run it from a folder on your hard drive. You could of course try compiling the source code for the linux desk top version? It is possible just to copy the data files from/to the zaurus with the 'ordinary' KDE pim programs.


About Vista, I'll give it one plus point: the resizing of the partitions facility seems to work fine. I'm keeping it for now until I get a 'spare' hard disk to swap in for possible down grading and/or going cold turkey on windows.

Thanks. That usb version is very usefull. I am confused about these things though. So ka/pi and ko/pi are forks of kaddressbook and korganiser? Looks like the k*/pi project is dead now. It's a shame because k*/pi to me looks better and still has better sync. No sync-pi in the new kaddressbook?

Yes kdepimpi is a fork of the kde apps. I am not a user of pisync, so I'm not a good source for how to use it. .

I do my 'synching' of kdepimpi by transferring the data file from one 'up to date' file to all the machines I might use.

There is a web site for the project with documentation etc. I seem to remember a howto about using ssh to sync the files between machines...

As to the project being 'dead'. A better way of looking at it is to say that it is mature. in other words it works well and is useful. It is usable on all the Zs and on the Archos pma and as you are finding out it can work in both linux and windows desktops or even from a usbstick/memory card.. It works on pdaxrom and there were versions working on the OZ distros. The source code is available for download on Sourceforge.



The PI bit in the name means Platform Independent. I think it performs as advertised.

If you restrict yourself to linux you can simply copy the data files from your kdepimpi apps on your Z to the original KDE apps on your desktop.
