Full Version: Simpad Replacement Battery?

I guess, the battery of my SIMpad SL4 died. Its condition degraded very fast recently, and after I had it not on AC power for a week, it doesn't load any more. Strangely the battery monitor shows 100%, no loading going on, and when disconnecting AC power, it turns off immediately, with normal boot on AC power restore.

I already searched on ebay, for "simpad", as well as for "CGA103450", but nothing came up concerning a battery replacement.

I already read some postings, suggesting to fiddle around with mobile batteries and cell replacements, but all that info is quite old.

What's the recommended way nowadays to give it a new life independent of AC power?

Hi,

here you find the way to replace the batteries:

http://opensimpad.org/index.php/Accu_repla...cheap_OEM_cells

And here you find the new cells:

Any clue, if item number CGP345010 is the strongest cell for that purpose?

It would be just too great, if the replacement pack even provides a longer runtime, then the battery pack, that came with the unit at that time.

In this thread [1] mrdata describes a lot about different types of OEM Cells and how to get them.

Too bad, I must have overlook that info. I just ordered 4 x CGP345010.

But nevertheless, a search for CGA103450 did not give any results on ebay (but a Google search revealed, that one CGA103450 is more than 3 times the price of a CGP345010, and not really easy to get). The mentioned "Akkus f.OLYMPUS BLL-1 PS-BLL1 HLD-2 E-1 3400mAh" would surely have been a better deal, but the only retailer on ebay that has listed that item (Akku-Kaufhaus) does not ship to Austria...

Here you got a replacement of original cells:

Shipment cost to EU from Poland will be about 45zł=14Euro,
single battery cost=13zł=4Euro...

If you still need them

Some useful info here about li-ion replacement. US source of cells would probably fit the bill when connected in series-parallel configuration...

I finally did the battery repair mod, using 4 x CGP345010 (which have now been laying around for some time). It was quite a hassle to disassemble the old battery pack and do the soldering on the new batteries, especially since for some reason the small inline-fuse (which I wanted to reuse) seems to have been blown. So after some more fiddling around, and removing that fuse, it finally is working again. Hopefully it is no problem to go without that fuse.
