This new platform is based on the LiMo Foundation R1 Reference Implementation

Well, this is JAMP- just another mobile platform. Of which plenty are floating around nowadays. And, last but not least, are all incompatible in terms of application building unless one installs the whole bunch of toolkit libraries- Azingo here, Qt/Qtopia there, Openmoko, etc.

(sales-pitch) This is what freesmartphone.org tries to change. One middleware, multiple application layers on top.
In the age of Android, it's a tough job to work on something like that, but alas they're still enough believing in freedom here.
