OESF Portables Forum > Everything Else > Archived Forums > Distros, Development, and Model Specific Forums > Model Specific Forums > SIMpad forum
Hi all,

I've bought a Simpad SL4 on "the internets". I want to experiment with a Linux distribution. Which is the most common / supported / "easy" to start with?

The Simpad has / is:
  • Windows CE 4.1 Build 908
  • Software variant S842-SI-INT-152
  • Boatloader: Siemens Switzerland V2.
On a CD i've the following software:
  • Some docs (datacable, datasheets of bootloader (?)(i can put them on the internet))
  • A folder with images:
  • CE41 / sl4_winCEnet41_ENG.bin is this the one that is installed?
  • HPC2000
  • some images for the CL4, SLC, TSINUS
  • some CE & Windows software
  • serload.exe
  • pbl-simpad-1.0
  • jtag-0.4
  • include-0.4
When something goes wrong, do i have enough to go back? What is the rescue plan to restore the old CE on my Simpad? Is there a way to copy the Rom 1:1 to my harddisk? That would be ideal.
you need to make the j-tag mod [1]. You should then also be able to save the rom with urjatag [2] or jtagtools. without jtag you may not be able to reflash the old bootloader if anything goes wrong with flashing it.
angstrom is currently the best supporting distibution. Please read it contains most of the informations you need. Even if the site needs some updates biggrin.gif

best regards
