http://ftpfs.sourceforge.net/ which has been merged into http://lufs.sourceforge.net/lufs/ allows you to mount an ftp served directory as a local drive. I consider this a good thing, on the Zaurus far more than on a full sized system. I'm hoping someone with the skill to actually implement it on the Z also considers it a good thing. Any takers?

why don't you just use nfs or samba?

LUFS supports arbitrary user-space plug-ins, allowing things like DavFS and SSHFS without recompiling a new kernel-module for them (once the LUFS module is compiled).

Also, perhaps the most common use for that would be hard drives plugged into a wifi router with a USB port like the ASUS WL-500g or the Netgear WGT634U. There's custom roms for those boxes that let you run Samba instead of just ftp, but those require telnet to manage samba, they don't support ssh.
