Backup Battery Problem

[UPDATED! 02/06/2006 22:04] Just wanted to share this stuff with other SL-5500x Users.

Recently my Zaurus started to complain about a low backup battery, even after recharging it for a whole day, the problem continued and made normal usage impossible. Always an error message showed up telling me to load the weak backup battery. *sheesh*

Since it is nearly impossible for a normal user to repair the battery, I was looking for a workaround:

Operating System: - Standard out-of-box Sharp ROM with Qtopia

The only way to disable the annoying message is to remove (or move in a different folder) the battery applet, which is found in /opt/Qtopia/plugins/applets/libbatteryapplet.so.* Removing all files containing "libbatteryapplet.so" and rebooting the Zaurus disables the warning and makes you able to work on your Zaurus again.

NOTE: This does NOT solve the problem that there IS something wrong with your backup battery, it just disables the warning. When changing your normal-battery the Zaurus will forget all user Data which is stored in RAM.

hope this might help somebody!

[UPDATE 1]: Rats! Obviously the battery-applet wasn't the thing that caused the battery-trouble... Seems to be an internal Qtopia-Program that warns you about the backupbattery - maybe the only way to disable it is to patch Qtopia itself... Why the removal of the applet caused the warning to display less for a while is unknown.

[UPDATE 2]: Seems like that the apm-binary is causing the further trouble, but I did not test removing it, 'cause my SL-5500 stopped complaining for a while - maybe deleting the file "apm" from the /proc directory should banish the battery-check forever. If I test it, I will post the Results here.
