Converting the Sharp ROM to English
This is a guide to how to get your Zaurus in a minimal state to start using English.
- Install a terminal application. You will need to find a terminal ipk installation file; if you have a current Zaurus model then it should be on the CDROM that came with it, see Installing a Terminal.
- Run the terminal.
- $cd Settings
- $vi locale.conf
- Change lang=ja to lang=en : move the cursor to the "j" of ja, hit x twice; press i, type en
- exit : hit cancel, enter ":wq"
- Reboot : choose the menu option
You may also want to keep Japanese and English together in the menus. See Localising/Converting to English for how to do this and also how to
- Install English help files
- Change the menus to both Japanese and English
- Remove Japanese input methods that automatically pop up when typing Zip codes into the address book
- Other customisations.
