As a non kernel/driver hacker, I'm just curious as to why/how SD support has basically gone away in kernel 2.6.x when 2.4.x was fine.  Is it because driver source code is not available and manufacturers have not compiled for 2.6?

Has anyone found a way to get SD cards working with the 2.6 kernel, or is it a lost cause?  OZ 3.5.4 Alpha1+ isn't a valid option for me without SD support...

Zauruses with 2.4 kernels had binary drivers. Under 2.6 there is new SD/MMC subsystem which was written with all freely available documentation. Each manufacturer has own version of specification etc.. nightmare.

We have sd/mmc support - just some cards dont yet work.

I think it would be a good idea for people to post working sd cards in the wiki... ;-)

such list can be problematic - for example many people has Kingston cards. But inside it can be Toshiba or Hitachi or any other brand - Kingston just rebrand many cards. I had working Kingston cards (not mine) and few non-working ones.

Hmmm... which wiki ?

FYI, I have a Sandisk 512 Mb working on 2.6 with 3.5.4.1-alpha1 on akita... so it's not a lost cause.

I got my 512 Mb Kingston SD working, but neither of my 1 Gb SD cards (PNY and Kingston) are recognized.

Are we any closer to another 3.5.4.1 test release? What improvements can we expect, if anything has been added other than bug fixes?

Expect alpha2 in this week. We update to 2.6.16 kernel, usb devices should work after connection on cxx00 machines, keyboard should not die in opie (famous Fn+Shift bug). GPE will be more polished thx to CoreDump who made big amount of changes here.

Great news Hrw!

What changes have been made to GPE since alpha 1, have you a link to a full list? I'll be happy with GPE when

It comes with gpe-filemanager as standard

easy GUI removal of cards (especially WiFi)

Yahoo! mail works under the mini-browser

Search feature in package manager

Hopefully some of those niggles no longer apply

I don't suppose this new kernel has the pxa270 video accel. patches or cpu scaling yet? Good to hear the USB problem is sorted!

(Out of my head:)
- Working and pre-configured hotkeys for SL-Cxxxx
- Correctly sized desktop and panel fonts on 200 DPI machines (thanks to Xora and florian)
- The virtual keyboard will no longer be killed / restarted after auto-rotation regardless of the users preferences.

I believe this is the case now for SL-C3xxx machines, yes.

I'm not so sure about this one

AFAIK the package manager has not been updated since alpha2

No video accel in 2.6.15 and I haven't heard of anyone porting the 2.4 patch to 2.6.16 either. I'd love to see that one in, too.

Hi,

I'm the lead dev on ZPSX, a playstation emulator on the Sharp Zaurus. I'm pretty new to the Zaurus "scene" but am familar with many other handhelds. Danboid was nice enough to tip me off to OZ. I've been using pdaXrom until now.

If nobody else is currently working on whipping up a kernel patch for BVDD support in OZ's 2.6.16 kernel, I'd be very interested in giving it a go. I've never done a kernel patch before, but that shouldn't be much an issue as I pick up on things quickly.

Once BVDD support is in place for OZ, we can get SDL to support it in a short matter of time. Meaning a new and faster ZPSX for the Z, and OZ in particular.

Hope I can help.

Thanks for the support! I can hardly wait to get back into Zaurus development again. :)

I have always wondered what bvdd does, does it reserve the sram for the frame buffer?

wouldnt it be a better and more consistent idea to speed up the frame buffer supprot thats in linux and pehaps merge bvdd into it, once again i need to know more about what bvdd does but this seems like a better solution as then both the VT's X and FB programs are all accelerated

also i heard that someone was working on pxa255 acceleration fro directFB perhaps anything not approprite for the kernel could go in there insteaad and then tell SDL to use directFB?
