I use SL-5600 with Sharp orginal ROM.

Any pros and cons to run Pdaxrom on SL-5XXX machines?

What is the minimum storage requirement?

TIA

For the SD card? It has to be <= 64MB, as that's the amount of flash a C750 has, which can hold pdaXrom and be ~60% full (with stuff uninstalled).
SL-C750- pdaXrom beta 1 (mostly unused)
Current distro: Gentoo

as for minimum storage requirements, intially you dont need any external storage cards, but to add any packages you will, how much is up to you .

im talking from experience with the collie and am not sure how the "later" releases of pdaxrom install ...

I installed 1.1.0b1 on my Collie twice recently. There are some quirks in the beta and the software is too limited for it to be of use. The version of KOPI compiled for pdaXrom is too old and buggy to be of use for a professional. I could not get a media player working and there is no ebook reader to read palm docs, isilo or plucker books. Nor could I get a web browser working. Of the applications I could get going, some ran slowly. I tried to remedy this with a swapfile, which did not work.

That said, I really liked the look and feel of pdaXrom. I am hoping that with the interest I've seen in the pdaXrom kernel that someone with knowledge will move the project forward.

chris,

too bad, i know the frustration well... let me take this opportunity to point out to anybody else that this verision does "lack" in more generally expected content areas and is definately a "project" undertaking more than something that can be installed and integrated immediately into a common busy "pda" lifestyle ....

im still going to have a go at kopi and have just been a little busy looking into toolchains right now...

and yes, it be nice to understand or have help on the issue of kernel and base pdaxrom distro upgradeing, though from what i see whith something like pdaxrom builder and its instructions/guides it can be done...

though this being said, if you have one or two apps you can find or can compile that your are happy using then this will run them fast and styilish with a *twist*

Hayden.

Hey, I am ecstatic at what you are doing and am watching your endeavors with great interest. I wish I could help, but my general expertise is in Filemaker Pro development and I am having to learn javascript/html at the present time (all done between 10 pm and 1:00 am!).

Thank you for what you are doing!

Yes, I think have said this before, it is a *lot* of work to get a 5500 setup with
pdaXrom and a bunch of apps, etc..

A while back, I was thinking of an alternate approach for installation, that would
allow myself as well as other folks to very quickly setup, or "re-setup" the 5500.

The idea was based around knowing that you would be using an SD card, and thus
providing not only the normal set of files to flash with, but also providing an SD image
(TGZ) that would be extracted to a blank SD, which would be inserted before booting.

I was surprised to find out that creating the "flashable" part, was a whole can of worms
in itself.  I did not realize that JFFS was so complicated, and I ended up abandoning
my plans.  I was actually expecting to find something like "mkjffs", and being able to
create and easily mount it as a loop file, etc..  But what I found was that it seemed to be
very complicated, and some type of flash-emulation system had to be learned, etc..

I still maintain, that the approach would work well.  A regular set of flashable files for
the kernel and the root file system, in conjunction with a TGZ to populate an SD card.

It would make trying pdaXrom out so much easier for Collie users. I tried to use a shell script to all the moving and deleting of directories. However, my shell scripting skills are horrific. Perhaps someone adept at shell scripting could make a script to ease the work of installing.

5500 feed relocated plus new ipk's

"17th July 2007:"

moved to a new host: http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/feed/contribs/telemetric/
thanks goes out to antix over there for the support.

I also recently finished my first version of a native gcc 2.95.3 fpa hardfloat based toolchain for collie running pdaxrom beta1, ideal for building modules...
plus more new ipkg packages !! :

---> 2gb-sd_2.4_armv4l.ipk
* the 2gb sd driver, packaged with preinst and postinst scripts to automatically backup/restore original driver

---> bcrypt_1.6-13_armv4l.ipk , bcrypt-html-doc_1.6-13_armv4l.ipk
* jetico's "bestcrypt" on-the-fly container encryption system and html website doc.
     (needs glibc-fpa to run)

---> glibc-fpa_2.2.5_arm4vl.ipk
* hard fpa glibc runtime libraries taken from my newly compiled fpa toolchain based on 2.95.3 gcc

---> texinfo_4.8_armv4l.ipk
* texinfo gnu package compiled natively provides makeinfo binary

---> transmission_0.72_armv4l.ipk
* gtk based torrent app.

well just had to attach a copy of these here, as they can be suprisingly hard to find and i even downloaded a 30mb sharp update cd to have the drivers it came with not work... these drivers give you NDIS TCP/USB network adapter in windows and the sl device in device manager. then you can just share your internet connection or do whichever...

Greetings folks, I've been away from my 5500, 6000, and the forum for quite a while.

I turned on my 5500 this morning, and was amazed to see the X server (and my apps)
still running, from WAY back when, when I last suspended it.

Anyway, I was listening to an MP3 in XMMS outside in the cold, and ran the battery
down.  When I rebooted it, and issued "startx", the X server errored-out due to a
missing library (libobrender.so.0 or something close).

I thought I was going to have to re-install, but running "ldconfig" cured it!

Whew, anyone else still running pdaXrom on an SL-5500 these days?

Anyway, I also thought I'd say hello...
