Title: New 7x0 Qtopia Rom from Sash
Post by: anonuk on March 04, 2004, 09:08:31 pm
It seem sash has a new qtopia rom ready, but no place ready to upload it so i offered my server, but it screwed up... Heres a temporary download location, if anyone can mirror it please do - the server is pretty slow:

http://www.matsavhalev.org/cacko-rom/cacko.htm (http://www.matsavhalev.org/cacko-rom/cacko.htm)

Im not sure what the two ipk files are for or if they are optional, thats just what sash uploaded to me and I havent managed to speak to him since. Im flashing my 860 now... just thought others would want  get hold of this rom too.

Hopefully someone can arrange to mirror this on ZUG and zaurus.spy.org

jsut couple things ....

neocal is great....i dunno if you need a calc with you but this far exceeds the previous one which was about useless for my needs.

the new overclock applet is nice, click it and it gives quick checkbox option for overclock, normal, slow, and slowest.

whatsuponZ is gone

In the networking app, the wizards seems to be removed.  when i click it i get message that the \"interet wizards has not been installed\"....which is good since it was mostly in japanese anyway.

QTconsole is ok.  It has a tons of fonts if you need to be able to read easier....I like 72 ....j/k, but its there if you want it   The color contrast is sort of light.  I like the green text on black and the colors in QTconsole are sort of bland and wash out against the background in the blues theme.  No biggie but jsut something that caught my attention.

Ive installed hostapp-wireless-drivers, libopie1, libopie2, libpcap0, Kismet, Wellenrier.......somewhere along that line my Dlink card is now recognized as \"zcomax XL-32H 200mW\".  Kismet wont run yet.  tried from terminal and got error while trying to run kismet_monitor.....wlanctl-ng: Operatperation not supported

thats where im at after 30 min of playing with it.  Off to dinner and then Ill play some more with it....girlfriend permitting of course

I installed the new rom on my c760, now my screen is all weird, its like theres a light shadow of the text and the images that shows up just below it.   does anyone else get this with the new rom?

My install went fine.  The first thing I noticed was the Clock screen saver... very nice.  I\'m not sure if previous Cacko QT roms had this, but still, very nice.

it installed just fine on my 760, after I repartitioned the flash (I thought I had done it previously, but apparently not).  I changed the partition to 50mb, which I think might be excessive.  The instructions say \"at least 26mb\", but do we know if that is truely what it should be set at, or should it be more?

Just curious because the more you allocate to the root partition, there is obviously less for the remainder.  Maybe I\'ll try a re-flash with it at 30mb or so....

franktj2000 - I haven\'t seen that issue with my 760.

I reflashed back to the february rom, and my display is back to normal.  At least it doesnt look like a hardware problem :-)

I repartitioned my flash to exactly 26 for the new rom,  but I dont know if that has anything to do with it.  In any case, flashed enough times for tonight, if anyone has any ideas, i can try the new rom again later.

Just installed the new ROM on my brand new C860.
After some sweating - hey, I just got the thing - I\'m pleased to say it works like a charm 8)
And what an improvement over the stock ROM it is!
Awesome! Great work!

The only problem sofar is that the Linksys WCF12 CF-Card isn\'t recognized.  :?
dmesg only \"reports pxa_pcmcia_init(0)\" thats it.
Will probably have to add it to some config file somewhere...

to get linksys wcf12 to work you have to edit /etc/pcmcia/wlan-ng.conf

find the wcf12 info way down the list and then comment out the manfid line

\"# manfid 0x028a, 0x673\"

got mine working no prob.

Wellenreiter is still not working though:(  I get a device not properly configured error for both WCF12 and Dlink 660w??

#edited for horrible typing skills and spelling

not really working.
the light comes on, then goes off..
one time the light stayed on, I got an eth0, but no ip.
now I can\'t get the light to come on when I pull out the card and insert.
I\'m going to reboot... try again.

maybe my card is (just) bad?

So did I understand correctly that if I\'ve repartitioned the ROM with the
slc760-25r96h-sdcf.zip sash once supplied, that is not enough for this
ROM, but the ROM/flash partition should be increased to 26? Or are these
two separate issues?

Is 26 enough also for future needs or should I increase it to 30M
just to be on the safe side?

Otherwise features sound real cool, have to try it when I get home.

Be careful with this crappy kernel of sashz:

A) FastFPE - Blows your precision...it may be suitible for people who do not do scientific calucaltions.  Watch out for any calculations for Handcom Sheet.

Nothing wrong with preemptive patch.  There are no compatibility problems.  Sash is too lazy to \"make modules\" and install them on his ROM.

C) Watch out for his so called \"LCD buffering\".  Its what is causing the \"ghosting\" to appear.  It would be a shame if your LCD screen gets permanently damaged.

This is the second kernel/ROM by sash and friends that has been placed out in a renegade fashion.  He does no testing nor looks at consequences.  Use this at your own risk.

lady bug,
I resized to 30 just in case, and have had no problems reflashing since.

I have had the behavior of my key change on this new rom.  At first the slash worked as default.  Then i had commas as default.  A reboot fixed it.

I have to say im pretty surprised at where this and the other thread are going.  Where did all the bad blood come between the TKC and Cacko camps??  Anon posts, name calling, blah blah...

(A) Is that is the case, then someone can select another kernel.

( Huh?

©  buffering may cause permanent damage?  It would be interesting to hear why you
think this might be the case.

For me, the overclocking just locks my 700.  You know what -- SO WHAT?  I think overclocking is dangerous and people do it all the time.  Hell, flashing is potentially
dangerous.

You, guest-poster-person, may put out a better ROM -- provided fixes for the cacko ROM.... or may continue to anonymous say and make random claims.   The first two are potentially helpful to the zaurus community -- the last does little but litter the boards with FUD.

You know, regardless of the little petty stuff -- CACKO is churning out items.  I have not
seen this level of development from any other source.

The new ROM looks great. I used 30 megs, no problems. And it\'s a lot faster. GPRS CF  installed fine. This is the first time I tried Opera, since it was always slow compared to Netfront. But Opera 7 is looking good.

Well done Cacko team!  You are the best!

Is this compatible enough with the prior sash ROM that I could flash the new ROM and then recover from my backup?
I\'ve done tons of manual \"tweaking\" on applications that I\'d like to avoid if possible.

I have a C860.  A few questions about the new ROM please:

1)  Can I use the new ROM on the C860 and still retain the fact that the Zaurus is recognized as a disk drive when connected by USB to my PC?

2)  I backed up the stock Sharp/Dynamism ROM that came on my C860.  I assume I can always go back to it if I have problems with the new ROM.  What would I set the flash partition size to in order to return to the Sharp/Dynamism ROM?  Are any instructions available regarding how to go back to the stock ROM.

3)  Am I correct that the new ROM has wireless support in the kernel so that apps like Wellenreiter should work OK?

Thanks.

1. Haven\'t installed this version (dl\'ing as we speak) but in prior version, yes.
2. Search on NAND - you can\'t restore a regular backup, but can revert to NAND backup which is bit by bit copy so partitioning shouldn\'t be a factor
3. Yes it has wireless - don\'t know about Wellenreiter.

We need to close this topic.  It\'s important that people understand that the ROM that was presented in this thread was an intermediate build.

Please visit the following thread to download the newest cacko ROM, and to post support questions.
