Just for info,  I have been using Open Camera with the noise processing switched off to get rid of the artifacts but had occasion to zoom in today and they are back dont know when this happened. luckily I have automated backups to SD card of my apps so I was able too restore to one from last year and the artifacts are gone . :). Disabled the Auto update for this app now.

Astro Slide - Hardware / Re: Keyboard-mat
« on: April 23, 2024, 05:32:13 pm »
Is it possible to lift the the mat in that corner and use a tiny amount  of contact adhesive to secure a small carbon pad to repair the hole. I don't profess to know the exact method planets keyboard uses but if they work by pushing a carbon pad against a contact on the board below then I assume the carbon pad is what was punctured, so I was thinking you may be able to patch it? Otherwise sounds likely the Cosmo mat is the same but seems a last resort if the Cosmo is still ok. Another possible would be to transplant the rubber cone from another key on the astro. I would try planet again as they will have Cosmo keyboard mats even if they couldn't get many Astro spares

I only ever found a couple of very old items on there. Discord or here seem to be the best.

Yes I factory reset and a month later booted up set the language and the battery had the same percentage as  a month ago, then factory reset and power off. Two months wait next time and 1% less so now just boot up every couple of months to check still around 40-50% and if below top up. But so it should be, given that is how it would sit in a box until sold initially.

I think the best way is to put it in the same state as a new one ie factory reset and power down then power per engage will hardly alter after months switched off.

I experienced something similar with my Cosmo as I use an Astro as my main machine and just boot up the Cosmo every 3 Weeks to top up the battery which was changed earlier this year and allow it to sync as a standby. initially I left it at 50 percent put it in airplane mode, powered it down and checked it every week, like you it hardly changed and then suddenly went flat. It looks to me like either something causes it to wake up like possibly an update routine or it ceases to be able to monitor battery charge after a while. It is most odd and I wish I knew what was going on. I have an iPad from the first release and shut that down for months on end but when powered on the battery has hardly altered, the Astro should be capable of  being powered down for ages. Rob

Sounds like you have a way forward. Yes please if I can have a script and clarity on how to use it correctly. Thank you

Just tried another SD card this time from my car camera which windows says is Fat32 and put the contents of planets install zip for v23and no joy, same error. Screen shot and install script used are attached Standard planet one. Given I get an error on the partition option in the recovery menu I am leaning towards the Cosmo partition data being corrupted

Sadly no progress. 2 different SD cards used formatted using windows vista, windows 7 and the arm  version of windows 11 using FAT EXT and formatted using Cosmo and Astro none of which give errors, with contents extracted from the Planet v23 zip file. Correct directory name and file contents but still same error messages with each test. Thank you for your time Dom, but it sounds like a lost cause

I pulled down a fresh copy of v23 and put the cosmo-custom-installer folder on 2 SD cards, the 250gb one I use in my Astro and a freshly formatted 125gb one. Same error with both as per initial attachments.

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Partition Question
« on: October 05, 2023, 09:29:02 am »
Background. I have 3 Planet machines an Astro and a Cosmo both working properly. The Cosmo had a new battery earlier this year and was set up as dual boot when i bought it but I repartitioned to use all the space as android using the recovery menu and re installed it at V23 firmware. All works perfectly and now I sync data and apps between the Astro and the Cosmo so my Cosmo is my semi warm backup device. This spends most of its life powered down and is just powered up,every few weeks to sync its data and apps.
I have a second Cosmo and this is the problem child. It had a hard life and is well used although the battery is ok ,the CODI screen is broken and does not work (don't care as i have it disabled when I play with it) Anyway this was also was set up for dual boot and i decided to reconfigure it using the partition option on the recovery menu and re install the firmware to v23 as that worked when i did it on my other Cosmo. Well this time something when wrong and I got an error partitioning , it formats with no errors on the factory reset but I then get a cant read the partition list when I try to update. Any ideas if this is correctable  or is the Cosmo just spare parts?  I get the recovery menu so bootstrap is ok.

I should add I paid less for it than getting planet to replace the battery so not worth sending to Planet

I downloaded Firefox and visited a number of sites down loading files ranging from 5mb to 1.5 GB. The downloads were all successful however the application did bomb out on a couple of pages and when restarting successfully displayed pages on second visit. You could try clearing the cache by holding down on the icon and going to the information page but as chrome has not exhibited this instability I suspect it is updated to work best on newer versions of Android. My Cosmo is on v23 with all space allocated to Android.

Great explanation that offers some hope. Thanks Dom

I see the Astro is fully project treble compliant according to Treble info including dynamic firmware  and Cosmo is compliant but not for dynamic updates. As this means the hardware supplies a standard interface for Google generic system images for Android does that mean it will be possible if PC are not able to do new firmware for Cosmo and astro that it may be possible to make new releases independently? Just thinking especially for Cosmo now and Astro in the future it may give some hope?
