Title: Meanie's Rotate Package
Post by: daniel3000 on December 07, 2006, 08:18:31 am
Hi Meanie,

I just tried some of your announced psaXro packages. Great stuff! Thank you very much!

rotate replaces the default rotate.sh and x11scr file and does pretty much the same thing, ie rotate the screen, but also rotates running applications as well.

The new rotation mechanism only works for maximized windows, as it seems.
Do you see any chance of enhancing it to non-maximized windows, too?
I think simply reversind the width/height ratio would be the best way of handling such windows.

Thanks!
daniel

rotate.sh -force
seems to hold the zaurus for about 1 minute but ends with no rotation...

am i the only one????

EDITED:
i've just logged off X and startx again (after unsuccessfuly trying to play with other window managers....so back with openbox) and now rotation IS working !! so i think sometimes the Z loose the ability to manage it... why???

seems like you are the only one with this problem, but at least you didn't have to reboot like in windoze

btw. did you install those packages while you were running X or outside of X?
I have found that files installed to /etc/rc.d... /etc/syconfig... /etc/apm... often need a restart of X or even a reboot to work reliably...

I updated the rotate script with the following enhancements:

1. when closing the display, the display is turned off (backlight)
2. when opening the display, rotation is not run (since orientation has not changed)
3. when resuming, rotation is not run three times and hence resumes will be faster

Does this only work in X? (I'm guessing the answer is yes, but just checking)
