Belt cases for cosmo?
« on: August 17, 2019, 03:33:13 am »
Now that we are getting closer to production run, has anyone discovered any good candidates for carrying cases/pouches for Cosmo?

That 17,14cm length is going to be a problem, since I really haven't been able to find anything good at least in Finnish market Even "XXL" size cases seem to be too small (typically they appear to have dimensions of with about 14-16 cm width).  E.g. this one https://www.insmat.fi/fi/tuote/insmat-exclu...ottokortti-rfid is "only" 165 mm.

Even cases compatible with Samsung Galaxy S10 plus don't work - S10+ is smaller...

Having a window for the external display would be nice too, but not really mandatory, but a quick access+protection are the primary features here. Belt clip is also something I prefer since I don't like shoving a phone down my pocket.

Closest I could find are these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tactical-Smartphon...hone&sr=1-1

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mopaclle-Holster-P...one&sr=1-13

But if anyone has already found a good solution for e.g. their Gemini (which has same dimensions) that is easily obtainable, please share.

Thanks.

Some users here have found some belt cases that fit their Gemini, and I believe that they would fit the Cosmo too, after all they share the same size except that the Cosmo is a bit thicker (1.51 cm v. 1.6):

The ebay offer for custom-made case seems to be the best option (albeit a bit costly) - there's now a Cosmo offering as well.

Not exactly belt case, but wallet case.

There is one Japanese company wich is making leather cases for Gemini. They might also modify it for Cosmo. They aren't selling directly worldwide, but have been using Amazon.co.jp as distribution channel.

I have 5,99" phone with 18:9 ratio. I'am using molle pouch and I think Cosmo will also fit in that.

Cases which were designed for the Psion 5 Series should fit the Cosmo too- but with some wiggle room as the Psion is significantly thicker.

Check out Psionex

These also come up regularly on eBay

Planet has a pouch but IMHO it's too expensive: https://store.planetcom.co.uk/collections/p...y-leather-pouch

Here's a few other really large phones I dug up using the GSMarena phone  finder. They're all from 2019 or 2018 (didn't find any from 2017). As all of these phones are currently available, maybe they could be useful as search terms when looking for cases. The Cosmo is a lot thicker, of course, but since, say, the Mi Max 3 is 8 mm wider, it might be a possible fit, if the case isn't too rigid:
Archos Oxygen 68XL      173.5 x 81.6 x 9.0 mm (6.83 x 3.21 x 0.35 in)
Honor 8X Max         177.6 x 86.3 x 8.1 mm (6.99 x 3.40 x 0.32 in)
Huawei Mate 20 X      174.6 x 85.4 x 8.4 mm (6.87 x 3.36 x 0.33 in)
Huawei Y Max         177.6 x 86.2 x 8.5 mm (6.99 x 3.39 x 0.33 in)
Xiaomi Mi Max 3         176.2 x 87.4 x 8.0 mm (6.94 x 3.44 x 0.31 in)
ZTE nubia Red Magic 3   171.7 x 78.5 x 9.7 mm (6.76 x 3.09 x 0.38 in)

I've never understood why people bother with cases, when they have perfectly good trouser pockets.  Cases are for wimps who don't use their device enough! :-)

I carried a Psion 5mx in my left trouser pocket for 20 years; I was always whipping it out to make a quick note, check my agenda, look something up in Wikipedia, play games, read books, &c.  And now my Gemini does all that and is my phone and web browser and stuff too.  There simply isn't time to faff around with cases when it's ringing...

(Of course, this only works if you wear trousers that have suitably-sized pockets. But most trousers do, these days -- partly because most people have phones.)

Psion 3a → Psion 5 → Psion 5mx → Gemini → Astro

Problem is that storing (cosmo-sized) device in your pocket is going to cause a bulge that is very uncomfortable once you sit down. Only type of pockets that might work are ones in cargo trousers...Pockets work for *small* devices, such as my on-call emergency cell that is just 8x3x0,5cm.

I asked Chinese leather shop, do they have suitable belt case for Cosmo.

I asked them by the Aliexpress "Contact" button: "Couldn't you make this vertical belt case in black leather? Like the first leather you have for your horizontal pouch. But in 4 days the message remains "Unread". How did you communicate with them?

Yes, just like that, I contacted them with "contact seller" -button. It usually took one or two days for answer. And once we were online at same time, then we get settled things.

Today I received my new custom made belt case for Cosmo Communicator.

Leather itself is great quality, about 2mm thick. Sewing quality is good and sewing line is thicker than usually used on phone cases.

My belt is about 37mm x 4mm thick leather belt and that fits very well.

Magnet clip has cover leather inside. And I think magnet is strong enough.

Overall this case seems excellent.

Only thing remains as question mark is how well Cosmo itself fits on case. That we will see probably in few weeks.
