Did Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work without fuss? Any sound?

My Baytrail device mostly works but Linux isn't stable, depending on the exact kernel and patches it will hard lock between tens of seconds and tens of minutes. This is what makes me worried about buying the GPD Win.

Sorry, didn't do much with it....as it was very awkward navigating around screen with it being rotated 90 degrees.....

Will try it again with xrandr and see if I can get it oriented correctly and then test out wifi, etc....

Tried adding 'xrandr -o right' to Grub boot parameters. But get message 'xrandr not found'......

I booted up with screen rotated and then checked WiFi....it works!

Opened up terminal and was able to use it.....even though it is sideways on display.

Tried 'xrandr -o right' and screen went black.

Found webpage with info about rotating screen. Tried what was suggested, but screen went black.

So, main issue now is getting screen rotated correctly....

Any ideas???

PS.  Phawx who has posted lots of WIN videos and posts over at http://boards.dingoonity.org/gpd-devices/g...indiegogo/5430/ says he got Xubuntu running and screen rotation correct. He says the gui has rotation options. Will check if Linux Mint has it too...[UPDATE: Linux Mint has it too, but screen went black after I selected rotation option.

I just tried running it, but after it starts to boot up, the screen goes black.....just read notes on the webpage and it says:

Some cautionary advice:

The initial menu screen takes slightly longer to appear than with the official ISOs. Depending on the speed of the USB drive used it can be anything from fifteen to forty-five seconds before anything appears on the screen.

After installing with a 32-bit bootloader booting sometimes results just in a blank/coloured (e.g. purple) screen.

To prevent this and to ensure a successful boot it is best boot through the BIOS menu followed by selecting the Ubuntu option.

If dual booting with Windows I recommend installing/re-installing 64-bit Windows to circumvent this issue if your device supports it.

Also, someone else posted they got Arch running with correct rotation with some tweaking. Tried what he did in terminal in Linux Mint, but screen went black.

someone on the GPD forum posted they had Fedora running, overcame the screen rotation, said something about wifi problems

- Xubuntu (worked OK for someone else...)

- Lubuntu


While have not figured out how to rotate display, most other things seem to work OK, including WiFi....

This is using KDE and Fedora 24
For the screen rotation, we waited until the desktop booted and the display options to rotate the screen.
then the kshell processed needs to be killed and restarted for it to behave properly.

and

Gnome didn't work when we tried so that's how we ended up with KDE.

I am just guessing here as I do not have one of these but it may depend on if the Linux kernel boots with modesetting enabled or not, as well as if there is fbdev rotation enabled in the kernel.
You can disable mode-setting with kernel parameter "nomodeset"

Got WIN today!

Overall, very cool pocketable computer....

Doesn't seem like a whole lot larger than Zaurus clamshell models...although it is larger....

Build is pretty good....

Can you post a picture to compare size  ?

Display is sharp and pretty vivid.

How is viewing angle ? Can you see from right and left a clear screen , sharp and correct colours ?

Keyboard is OK....not great, but you will get used to it after a bit....

What is the keymap like under linux, can you do all F1-F12 , SHIFT, ALT, CTRL etc ..

Plugged in USB stick to try out Linux Mint 18......

Good news it boots up fine and you get to desktop as expected.

Bad news is that Greg suspected, just like BIOS settings screen is rotated sideways, so it Linux Mint.....

So, that would need fixing....but it can be done, then linux should work great.....

See my other post about this, this can be fixed. Depends on driver support for hardware rotation.

Maybe I need to get one....

Indeed, but I will wait a bit, get some log files and more hardware details from a running recent Linux kernel first, before ordering one.
Saying that, they may have limited stock and it may be best to get in line now if you are very keen.

But did not work for me......screen turned black....

I can check Xorg driver and log file later.....

So far, xrandr just causes screen to go black....it has worked sometimes for others....
